Picked Up My New Car
« on: August 15, 2019, 08:06:45 AM »
So, I finally got to pick up my new Pontiac last Tuesday.
Bit of a story behind this car, owned by my best friend for 25 years, I helped on the restoration when needed, we did car shows and runs together.
He passed away in 2017 suddenly, and I've been helping his wife sell off his car collection and stuff.
When it came to this car, she didn't want it to go to just anyone because it was my friend's favourite car....one he'd never want to sell.....so we came to deal that worked for both of us and now it'll live with me.
1968 model, fitted with a RAIV cammed 428 and Tremec TKO-600 5 speed. Has a 9" LSD rear. Car was restored and painted in 1995, still pulled the odd trophy 10 years later. I think its still in fine condition.
I've been running it and giving it a short drive every few months for the last 2 years.....when I got it home, I gave it a good check over and changed the oil. My friend and I will be enjoying another car show this Sunday.

This is my friend, Michael. Some of the guys on here may remember meeting him at a couple of T/A Nats visits we made in 2006/2007. Thats the 455 he guided me through for my 71....another fast engine. :)

That is so cool that his memory continues to live on through you.  I remember you telling the story in an earlier post and it still gives me goosebumps reading it.  Just too cool and the bird looks fantastic!

All in all, I cannot think of any other way it could be more fitting. I would certainly want my favorite car go to a close friend or family member that would take care of it the same way that I would. It is certainly, as it should be.

Thanks, guys.....yeah, its special to me. When he was alive, I'm the only other person he'd let drive this car.....he was EXTREMELY careful with it, lol.
Heres a picture of just three of his cars.....he was a perfectionist with things. This pic is probably 13 years old, the 68 coupe still looks just as good these days, although I finally got him to change the wheels, lol.

It's great looking car, really nicely done. While I like both the old and the new set of wheels on it, I have to wonder if a set of 17" rally style wheels would look even better?
Enjoy the car, it has to be a blast to drive and you get to run it year round. Lucky dog.

What a great car.  I recognize him from the Nats.  All this time I didn't realize he was somebody I had met.

that was a one owner family car he bought while we were on a trip to the US...came from central California....darned near rust free, never had a crash. I was starting to restore it when his widow came up with the offer for his red 68....I sold the 69 to a guy I know who was looking for a clean project.
Mike used to get a lot of ribbing over the fact he always seemed to end up with red cars.
