455 SD Help
« on: July 28, 2019, 08:58:58 AM »
Does anyone know where I can get a distributor gear for my 1974 Trans Am 455 Super Duty. I bought the car as a project and have just rebuilt the engine only to discover I have the wrong gear on the distributor. I would really prefer to find the correct gear instead of pulling the engine back apart to install a non SD cam. Any help will be appreciated.

I may have a used one for you. Mine is out being blueprinted / rebuilt.
I was going to use it, but have found out that the SD cams are no longer being made now.
For what it's worth, I also have an original 74SD cam with 50K miles I'm not using.

Are you guys are kidding me? Why would you ever consider using a used cam or gear for that matter on such quality builds. Surely butler or SD performance can get something almost perfect to fit the needs in a new part. If I had my 74 back I would have a custom roller cam made to spec and have something much less prone to wear. I would urge you guys not to be afraid to update internally for the benefit of the build.
