Secret Audio
« on: July 08, 2019, 09:09:41 AM »
Anybody have experience with the secret audio? I have a nice original unit and 8 track in my car that is not currently hooked up. I know these didn't sound too good new so I never bothered doing so. I am not the audiophile that I used to be so I dont need a high dollar stereo system. But I have been contemplating on putting in one of these just because.

From what I gather the amp/receiver is a smallish unit that they recommend installing under a seat. Then there is a remote controller to operate the thing. Plays through stock mounted speakers if need be. Stock radio unit stays in place, this one is hidden out of sight.

I haven’t heard of secret audio either but have a look at my thread with what I did  it might give you some ideas. Sorry it’s kinda long but you should be able to skim through it and I’d answer any questions you might have. I love the setup. It allows me to use my factory radio, factory 8 track and Bluetooth from my phone. You could theoretically add a modern radio hidden in the glovebox too if you want.

I read through the thread and am even more confused! Forgive me im a bit slow LOL. Looks like an interesting setup you have. Im not sure I have the patience to go through that. That's one of the reasons I had thought about the secret audio setup. Thanks.

Lol I can see why it seems confusing. I was thinking out loud, so to speak, quite a bit and learning along the way. Essentially you just use a line converter on the radio outputs (or 8 track outputs if you have one), run RCA cables from that to the amp (using splitters if you want to power 4 speakers). Forget the little push button I have. That’s due to how I had stuff set up before I figured out the best way to integrate it all. For what it’s worth. Maybe I should’ve looked into secret audio instead lol.

I did many audio installs back in the day with stock and aftermarket head units. Used many line converters and they work well.

Correct me if im wrong, I thought you said you had your original radio working or fixed to begin with. Mine is in the car but not hooked up. I bought my radio from a guy that bought a 76 T/A brand new, took the radio out a week after he bought the car and put it on a shelf. I assume it works but who knows. I didn't want to go to the expense of getting that working first. The secret audio thing is about $250. That's about as much as I want to spend. Im not the audiophile I once was. Back in the day, having a custom stereo was a must. I had a couple of systems that were close to $1k at the time (1982 money), now, it just doesn't mean that much to me.

Yea I did have my original radio fixed but that was separate from, and not dependent on using the amp . Also you can find the amp I used for $165 which is what I paid. After your post I looked into the secret audio thing to see what it was. Looks like several options. I guess I wasn’t exactly clear in what you’re wanting out of the system. I thought you wanted to keep your original radio and the 8 track player with a few modern conveniences.
