1975 455 L75
« on: June 16, 2019, 07:04:57 PM »
Finally got around to get most of the numbers of the engine.
VIN is 2W87W5N
Car delivered end of June. no cowl tag, but have PHS sheets.

Block is 485428 (which from Wallace list is '71- '74)
Block stamped WX
Heads are 6H-6, dated March 26,1975

Is it possible  they just used left over '74 blocks and stamped it WX for the L75 option for 1975?

Wallace shows block #500813 for '75-'76 455.

VIN on block matches, it starts with 25Nxxxxxx, which the 5 is the last number of the model year, '75.
Date code on block is B255, so Feb '75.
So looks like they were still using 485428 castings in 1975 for the early WX with 6H heads.
Got all the numbers now .

Learned something there.  They would probably like to know that.

If the numbers match then yes, it would be very reasonable to assume they used some leftover blocks.

The database has been updated on the block casting code for the WX engine code.
(thanks for the info!)

I think with the 455 not being used in the Firebirds originally for 1975, Pontiac added the 455 'HO' to the TA.
They probably used the earlier 74 block castings for this.
Possibly because they had emission OK already for it in the (1974) Firebird?

That is a great example of how things happen without documentation.  I presume they didn't intend to build those cars and then changed their minds.  I really appreciate your engine code database, thanks.
