Windscreen mounting blocks #9624995
« on: June 11, 2019, 02:50:06 AM »
I removed my good set of windscreen mounting stop blocks, and found a spare set I'd purchased. Both had been sprayed black over the rubber and bracket in previous lives (ebay sellers tidying up and lazy smash repair masking off). Neither had surface rust, so I soaked them in thinners while I was out.

Don't soak these in thinners!

I had 4 beautifully paint-stripped bare steel brackets and 4 puffy black rubber sleeves that had inflated and then started to crumble. Expensive error, seen how much these things are used now?! Even new are expensive. And none are as tidy as the 4 I already had!

Anyway, seems the repro units are similar prices to used. Pics just for examples. Has anyone bought these recently, was wondering how they actually look and compare to original since no photos seem to exist other than the stock pics.

First is typical used originals.

Next is the OER type sold by Firebird Central and NPD. Looks correct from the rear, but they all have the same stock photo.

Then there's this horrible dipped version by Classic Headquarters. Might suit something else better.

I bought repro's for my 77 and they were fine, close to original. I dont seem to recall them being expensive though. With that being said, I was going to buy new for the 79 but after seeing this post I may just try and clean up what I have and reuse.

There's a few specs. You should be ashamed.

I was doing some work on mine several weeks ago. Ok, that was a lie. I uncovered it and stood pondering for an hour as I let it run for a bit. The dust kicked up and decided I needed to clean it before the cover went back on. Lets just say the dust has become worse and the cover can't return until cleaned. It's terrible, the neglect!
