Final drive home
« on: April 17, 2019, 10:57:15 AM »
Well my last day of work was 12 April and I started my last drive from California to South Dakota 13th and made it home on the 14th. The truck did great even getting 7.5 mpg........lol. I am officially retired and hopefully the money estimates are correct, if they are I will be making a little more than I was working.......fingers crossed.

congrats and best wishes for a long and healthy retirement.

Glad the trip was uneventful.  Left on the 13th and arrive on the 14th...that's a long way to go and a short time to get there.

The career was Air Reserve Technician which it a two component job. One reserve and one civil service.

Thanks everyone, I getting settled in and working on the retirement pay details it’s government so everything happens at a snails pace. I did get started on the Trans Am transmission and I’m dropping it off at a shop today. Looks to be the bearing between the input shaft and main shaft. I would fix it myself but I don’t have all the pullers required.

I agree with Ryeguy, cool truck. 1979? Was your job aircraft related? I spent time in the AF active duty, worked avionics on KC/RC-135's and C-130E models.

I started this career in 84 active duty AF as a aircraft welder, I got caught up in Regans force reduction and went into the ART program from 88-2019. AF also did rivet workforce which combined welders and machinist, in the end I was the Fabrication Flight Chief WS10/E8. It has been a great career but the AF has changed a lot and it was time for me to go. I am very blessed that the ART programs allows us to retire at a young age and have enough money to live comfortably, I’m 55 now and will take home around what I was making working.
