76 lower fibergalss bumper?
« on: September 21, 2018, 08:08:36 PM »
Has anyone tried this?
https://www.classicindustries.com/product/f15246.html

I purchased and have done an initial install, but I'm very much not happy with the fit.

There are only two choices:
The header panel has an overbite (bottom edge of header hangs over top edge of bumper)
or
move it out so the panels meet as they should but have a 1-1/2" gap between the lower fenders
and bumper sides.

My original bumper looks great on the outside, but has fubarred mounting bolts leaving me with no adjustments.

I have not tried it, but that sounds like pretty crappy choices.  Couldn't your original mounting studs be fixed?

That's just what I ended up doing. The mounting studs had to be cut out and I pulled some from an older beat up 75 bumper I had.
I used 3m bumper repair to rebuild the mounting holes but I'm really relying on the originals that re left to carry the full weight.
We'll see if I get any sag over time.
I returned the fiberglass piece and Classic said almost all of them come back.

Well, it must be something about the fiberglass bumpers. We are doing a full restoration on a '76 TA, and since the rear bumper cover had some deep checkering, we decided to replace it with a fiberglass one. We ordered the new bumper from Stinger fiberglass in Florida. They apparently make most of the ones for the restoration vendors. It fit like CRAP. The right side stuck out about 1/4", and had to be ground through the bumper to make it match the body lines. The left side stuck out over 1/2", and had to be cut and re-fiberglassed, in order to pull the end around to the fender. When we called about the poor fit, we were told that every car is different. Therefore, it's close, deal with it. My restoration shop had a day of labor to make it work. You might expect this from something made in China, but they claim to have superior U.S.A. quality and workmanship.

There was a guy that posted pics here at one time that the cut out at the taillights didn't even fit. Factory cars def had some fitment issues but nothing that bad.
