LS Swap Motor Mounts
« on: September 11, 2019, 10:47:19 AM »
I am sure that this topic may be covered within another thread, but couldn't find a thread that deals specifically to Motor & Trans Mounts.

I just picked up a 5.7 LS out of a '98 Camaro and will be dropping it into my 79 Trans Am.  The motor came with all accessories and trans (auto 4L60).  I am looking for ideas of what motor and trans mounts that people used and whether they would recommend them to use on my project.  Also, would like to keep modifications at a minimum.  LOL

Thanks in advance for your assistance!!

I went with BRP MuscleRods.  I was very happy with the fit and finish on my 6.2L LS.

I definitely like the looks of them.  If I can fit them in my budget, I would like to go with them.

Glad to hear that they worked out for you.  DO you happen to have any pics?  Also, did you buy the trans mount as well?

I went with the BRP Musclerods motor mounts and t56 crossmember as well and am happy with the products.  There was quite a bit of tunnel to cut out and, I had to notch the crossmember to get it to slide in place.

Note:  I also relocated the holes in my K member to mount the engine very slightly and welded in nuts to avoid having to be contorted to get the nuts on free hand.

I used the Dirty Dingo mounts. I set the engine forward so I didn't have to notch the crossmember for the alternator.  That also let me use the stock trans crossmember without cutting it. I just used the rear bolt holes in the front bolt holes of the frame, basically moving it 2"+ forward.  That was with the 4L60e trans that came with the LS1 from a 98 TA. I plan to put the ac back on but using a passenger high mount kit for the sandan compressor.

Thank you FormTA.  Is it safe to assume that you used the Dirty Dingo P/N DD-3500C?

Also if you have any pics of your setup it would be appreciated.

As always this forum is great with people willing to share experiences.

Yes I have their trans mount too.  Will dig up some pics later today.

Yup, that's the one. I went and looked at my thread and apparently I was not good at listing detail or posting good pictures at the beginning.... I'll see if I can get a good picture or two now but the engine bay really fills up quickly when you start putting your car back together...

Unfortunately I was only able to find a couple of pics, just of the undercarriage.
