Stock 67... impressive.

Well, it IS a '67. And it is running in the "STOCK" eliminator class.

BUT, it is FAR from being "stock", as in how it came from the factory. It will probably turn over 8000 rpm.  Probably has a converter that will stall well over 4000 rpm, maybe even over 5000. But, it does have to run 670 iron heads, a '67 iron intake, a 750 Q-jet, 9" slicks, and a low lift flat tappet cam. No limit on cam duration or valve spring pressure. Therein lies the secret of how it can turn high rpm.

The NHRA rules for Stock elim have gotten WAY out of hand. It is quite common for the old Musclecars to run in the mid 10's. That's over 2 seconds quicker than than my '68 Bird Stocker ran back in 1975. That's quicker than the same type cars use to run in the Super Stock class. In fact, I know of at least one Pontiac guy who has run his Bird Stocker in Super Stock. And it ran quick enuff to run under it SS index ET.
