Ames Door Sill Plates
« on: January 22, 2019, 03:27:11 PM »
Hi All:

I get most of my parts from Ames and I really think they are GREAT - so this is not vendor bashing.

I just wanted to report that the door sill plates that I received for my 78 TA are very thin and dent easily.

Wish I could find some OEM quality ones.

Again - Ames is GREAT - but this particular part isn't so great.

I bought the same ones a month ago, but have not yet installed them. One came without the Fisher sticker, they had to send one out separate. Did not seem to be high quality. :(
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure.

Dont recall offhand if they offer a good and better quality on these like they do a lot of the parts. I bought them ( I too bought most of my parts from Ames) a couple of years ago and was very happy with the quality. I think the price was pretty hefty as well. They may have changed over the last year of so.

Also, you can post a criticism so to speak on the PY forum that goes directly to the vendor, may be worth making your voice known. Dont think it will help your cause but it may help with future products so the seller knows how customers feel about their products.

I am happy with the sill plates purchased from Classic Industries, fit and finish is very good.

I believe Ames offers to sets of door sill plates, one good and one better.

Yes they do have 2 choices. One says the quality is fair to good and they are about $25, the others say they are correct and cost about $30 ea. I bought the more expensive for my car and yes they do scratch pretty easy. I try to stay clear when I get in and out of the car.

I think I have those in my car too, they had a sticker on the bottom of them so I'm sure they reproduction, height of this point they are totally destroyed they are so scratched dented and bashed in that they might as well be original 40 year old pieces  :P

when I first got the car they were pretty nice but even after a couple of rides in and out of the car they got scuffed up so easily and are totally boofed. I even kept the originals out of the F/A despite them being super super old and deteriorated simply because they were much more rigid. I might try polish them see if they turn up any better
