Christmas Village
« on: December 03, 2018, 04:32:26 PM »
My wife started collecting these houses about 30 years ago. We would add one about every year and put them on the mantle. They have been sitting in their boxes for at least the last 10yrs, so last Saturday I decided to build a table and put them up. It was a rainy day and nothing better to do. My 6 yo helped and we had a good time putting things together.

I like it. Good job.
I had some of the family over yesterday and we decorated for Christmas, had a few cold ones, and a great time.

Looks great!

Similar story in that my aunt used to take by sons shopping when they were small and they bought the church one year.  That started a tradition where they'd buy a new piece each year.  We amassed a collection of about 15 pieces including an HO christmas train to run around the village.  At one time I built a 4ft x 8ft table to lay them all out.  My aunt passed away, the kids got older and we didn't have enough company to justify the effort in setting it up.  I got rid of the table and the village has been retired to the attic for at least 8-10 years.  You pictures are inspiring me to build a new table and bring the village back to life.

Very Nice!  We did that for a long time, with many pontiacs in the village, but have currently lost my "spot" to assemble it.

The plan was to get a small gauge train to run around the perimeter but I didn't build the table big enough! The table is L shaped 4' on one leg and 5' on the other. We had an empty spot in the dining room to take up the space. We are now raising our 6yo grandson so we have a "young'n" in the house again to enjoy the little things.

When the Bachmann O scale "tweetsie" came out, I bought one just for the snow village.  Man, is that thing gorgeous, and it runs like a swiss watch.  They did not have such fantastic model trains when I was a kid.
