Garage Build (Fixed)...I think
« on: August 10, 2018, 09:24:19 PM »
So it has been a journey with every possible snag and hurdle that can come up and discourage a person from building a garage and most of it stems from our cities BS bylaws. We started digging 1 year ago.

So after some  changes made to the drawings, we settled on 32x36 with the intention to expand it an additional 16 feet off the west side...this will run East and West...14' ceiling, two 12x12 G. Doors on the East wall,  one 9'x7' G door on the North wall, and going to get a 200 amp service. On the top side it will have Metal roofing that matches the house. It'll probably cost $55,000.00 to $65,000.00 by the time its finished and we saved cash by deciding to take on the framing ourselves. anyways...I will update this as things progress.

"The Project" will be reborn soon!!!!!

Well, problems posting pictures aside, I am waiting for the city inspector to come out and check out the pre-concrete inspection. If I get the thumbs up from that, then I can pour concrete this week...well...not me but the contractor I hired.

Right on, thank you very much

Congrats.

That's the idea...want it to be able to hold heat intelligently before the snow flies...doesn't leave me much time...I was supposed to be framing during these two weeks I was off.

So after this picture was taken from my phone, my dad parked his car and truck up on the pad for a picture with his camera. later in the day he backed his flat bed trailer up there to fix some wiring issues. Getting used before the walls go up.

I love it

That's a thick pad, I'm assuming it's because you are up north.

It is a floating slab setup with built in footings so the perimeter is thicker than the center but the center is still 6" reinforced with thick rebar

Looking good! Did 2 guys place and finish that slab? If so, I'm impressed.

It was setup with a general contractor doing most of the grunt work with a mini-ex setup in the center, to get the grade on point and the forms were established by 2 guys and a kid doing the gopher work. All double checked with the a special level tool. Only one of the two guys in the pic set up the forms. Guy with the hat was at a different project during that time.

Now we are waiting on the block layer to come in and set one course of block

I'm at the peak, with my arse in the air!!

Looks Great! Getting dryed in is about half the battle. And with the sky's looking the way they do makes me think you're about to get snow. Pretty nice surprise to get some unexpected help, especially with a roof. I had a (whom I thought was) a buddy tearing down a barn to relocate. He needed help one Saturday, so I volunteered. It was me, him and his 2 strong, healthy, strapping teenage sons. We were taking the metal off of the roof. I was the only one not afraid to climb so I did the majority of the work, while the 3 of them stood on the ground stacking stuff as I sent it down. That was a lesson learned.

Yeah...my girl moved here (Sudbury Ontario), from Okinawa Japan. But after 4 years, she is starting to be climatized!!
