Windshield/back glass trim
« on: October 05, 2018, 09:36:02 AM »
The trim on my white 76 is black.  I was going to replace it and while looking it up found that it's offered polished and black.  I never knew it was offered black.  Was that a factory option and if so,  how would I know which mine had?

In 1976, black windshield trim was used only on 50th anniversary Pontiac LE models.  So if your car is white, it came with bright trim.  It was never an option, but it was used on certain cars.  Black was used on Special Edition Trans Ams from 1977 to 1978, and then all Trans Ams in 1979.  It's the same trim as a Camaro, so they have their version of that history too.

P.S. There is another thread on here saying some 76's came with plastic windshield trim.  I don't think any of us has found any history of that, and it must have been some sort of experiment as it didn't catch on.

Ok, thanks.  Looks like I'll be changing it.

The bright trim is original for yours, but can easily go black if you prefer that look. It's a good use for slightly scuffed trim.

I'm not really a fan of the black trim.  To me it always seemed like the cheap or lazy way out.  If the car had it originally that's different though.
