Mr. Crispy
« on: June 29, 2018, 05:57:26 AM »
Well, as you know I love to work on things. I think that is why I have so many projects. Here is my latest, which I dub Mr. Crispy. Last month my sister and brother-in-law had a barn fire started by a brooder lamp falling over. This was the least damaged item. It didn't actually catch fire but the heat from above and smoke did the damage. Unfortunately he lost everything in the barn. 6 snowmobiles four wheeler, tractor, boat, dirt bikes and tools. He was going to dumpster this and offered it to me. I have already ordered $1400 in parts (after making sure it runs). I will probably be close to what it is worth but I'm not sure of it's value as the 2003 FX140 don't seem to show up for sale. I have heard they are great machines with iron engines from Yamaha's cycle line.

It starts right up and everything inside looks great as does the pump outside.

Hope you all don't mind a thread on my progress..

Looks like you are already in tune with the water sports thing. Good Luck. Those things are lots of fun. Sorry to hear about the fire.

Ya, I have three other skis. Two mint 1990 Kawasaki TS and a 93 Polaris SL750. The boat is an 1985 I redid 16  years ago. I have a lot of toys but they are not the latest and greatest but still fun.

Some parts showed up today. I also scrubbed as much of the smoke off and scraped a bunch of melted plastic off the hull.

I haven't been able to find a replacement lid. Anyone know of a salvage yard or where I could find one? Nothing on eBay either.

Finally on the water. Put 6 hours on her last week. She runs great and doesn't look half bad at 10'.

Yes, new seat, dash, hood, fenders controls, grab bar, 24 parts in total... Ya, it's like 11' long and 4' wide and almost 900 lbs. It's a tank but I love the fuel injection and it being a 4 stroke. It still goes over 50mph and it is great for the kids to wakeboard behind.

This is a "slow" one it tops out at 52/53 buy that is about at fast as I possibly want to go... Our lake is usually busy and any faster and I wouldn't feel safe. It is a tank though. One of my other skis is only a two seater and is about half the weight, it also tops out mid 50s and that thing is really unstable at that speed. One wrong wake and you'll get thrown off. They are a ton of fun but many folks are not very courteous out there and give these a bad wrap. Like any machine, only push them to your limit and you'll be ok.

I have been on a couple in the past and loved them. Even briefly thought about buying one in the past but came to my senses! We rented them at the beach a couple of times and had a lot of fun but you had to stay in a somewhat controlled area. The funning thing was that in order to rent one you had to take a test (bit of a joke), give a drivers license, credit card deposit etc. In the islands while on a cruise we rented a couple from a local on the beach. All he needed was about $50 cash and off we went! Only restriction he gave us was to come back in hour or so.
