Two months away- Who's Ready & Who's Not?
« on: June 27, 2018, 08:18:11 AM »
Mark mine in the "NOT" column.  Car is still partially disassembled, and then needs paint.  Then get it home and do some wiring and then take care of some other small issues.  Cutting it too close...

So you are going but "not" ready, or you are not going?

So you are going but "not" ready, or you are not going?

I sent in my registration last week, so I'm planning on being there.  Last year I put the dash back in the car with the new radio, hooked up the gauges, re-installed the seats, and finished around 12:30 am.  Went to bed for a little while, got up and started the car at 4:30 am.  Drove it to Dayton (7 hours) and tested the just-installed Vintage Air, radio, and twin electric fans.  Made it there and back with no big issues (other than the new carb I had bolted on the day before  kept flooding at idle.)

It’s more a question of keeping it ready than getting it ready! I do so much prep and detailing through the spring and early summer for other shows, by the time Nationals come around, I’m done! It is what it is.

Mine's ready.............................but we're not going this year.  After 25 years of the Mrs putting up with me, we'll be on the first leg of a week and half road trip that includes the Badlands, Mt Rushmore, Glacier National Park, Yellowstone and the Tetons.  Hopefully our kids don't burn the house down while we're gone lol.

Sounds like a great trip. As much as I would love to go to the nats, my wife is not into cars and it would be a tough sale for me to talk her into it. Hoping to make it one of these years.

I am not signed up, but I thought it would be a great road trip. I would like to drive the TA up there for it, but I been having problem after problem. Right now a leaky trans (I made a post about it). So still up in the air for me.
Drive it like it's a rental.

It's not looking good for the '69 that we drove there last year.  It is evidently still sitting in primer and partially disassembled.  Last week I bought a '77 Y82.  I am going to start checking it out and trying to make it road-ready, I guess.  The A/C isn't working on it.  I had just installed Vintage Air on the '69 right before the Nats last year so my wife would have A/C.  She sure won't enjoy 7 hours each way with the sun shining through the roof on this one.

We went last year without a TA and made plans to go this year and bring the fire am. However since then I sold the trailer. Ordered a new trailer  this year but still not here yet. So if it’s not here next week we may miss this year, or possibly come without the TA.

This morning I dropped it of at the A/C & radiator shop.  He is going to try to figure out why I only have the constant low speed, but none of the otehr important  ones.  7 hours each way with the sun shining down the t-tops and no A/C won't make mama happy.

Well I’m glad to say the factory a/c system worked fine after I reconnected the switch.  Not many 40 year old cars left with functional R12 systems.  It didn’t even need charging.  Car ran fine the entire 7 1/2 hour drive.

I am on my way with wife, but no TA. Still not trusting it for long drives. I also had the AC converted, but I think there is a leak as it's not that cold.
Drive it like it's a rental.

The weather was actually good for people, just not for cars and I'm sure not good for the judges.  At least we got the cool with the rain, really comfortable.  The rains were super short, but if you're trying to keep a car dry that doesn't make any difference.  I dried mine off I think 3 times but that was it.  The 4th time was about time to leave.

It seems like it always rains at least once but this is the first time I remember it being cool all weekend.

It was un seasonably cool in the mid atlantic this past weekend. Very low humidity (which is unheard of this time of year) and high temps in the 80's. Again, its normally in the 90's+. I went to a car show and the weather was perfect.
