235/70/15's what backspacing on the wheels (1979) T/A
« on: May 15, 2018, 09:27:18 AM »
Thinking about changing out my wheels, I run 235/70/15 on all 4 corners. Love the stock look. I'm going to pull one of my wheels off to measure (rally II) going with snowflake wheels, maybe new ones. i've read 4.875 ( 4 & 7/8 ths) BS but for some reason I cant seem to find that wheel, 4 inch--4.5--5.125---5.5 etc. Would someone go with the 5.125's and add 1/4 -1/8 of spacers?. Just want it to look right when its all done. Running Radial T/A's BFG's ( classic look)  Hate to order something and hate the offset/backspacing and have it rub.  How thick of a spacer can you go for with stock lug stud?  Has anybody run different offset front vs. rear?  I've read that the front and rear have a different wheel stance. Whats the difference with the 8 inch wheel vs. the 7 inch wheel, as far as backspacing is concerned?  thanks

The stock Turbos on mine were 8" wide with 4.5" backspacing.  I had that size on both the front and rear at different times.  No problems at all on the rears.  The fronts scraped on my rubber mudflaps and I eventually went back to 225/70-15.  You might be ok if you have no mudflaps.

235-70-15 is not stock. It's bigger and taller than the stock 225-70-15.

235-70 is not a good size for a TA in my opinion, unless you like sitting up higher than stock.

7" Rally II wheel has 4-3/8" backspacing.

7" Snowflake wheel has 4-1/4" backspacing

8" Snowflake wheel has 4-1/2" backspacing.
