I bought a Dodge truck "mopar" engine why????
« on: May 14, 2018, 07:39:49 PM »
I got a 1968 Dodge D200 automatic 318 engine 5.2L engine
Never had a Dodge I never really like Dodge I don't know why but now I have this 1968 Dodge truck and I like it
easy to work on, I replaced the steering box the drag link the alternator the starter and did the tune up thermostat replacement flush the radiator and it runs pretty good
I'm surprised at how well it runs, engine and transmission work fine and all the electric too

It has the long bed 8 lug wheels is the Adventurer model

Maybe I'm losing my mind I kind of got it because that's the year I was born darn I'm old!!!! :-)

Grats on the "new" truck!  It's good to hear that it runs :-)

Old?  I'm only 11 years behind you.

My grandfather was a farmer and that's the vintage Dodge truck he had. I always think of him when I see one. I always thought they were ugly compared to Fords but like a lot of cars, the looks have grown on me over the years. Lining up the three from the period I actually like the looks of the Dodge the best now.
Pop bought a used dodge as a work truck in the late 70's, it was a 73 model I think, had a 440 and got 6mpg at the best. Needless to say he sold it after about a month!

Well I don't feel old but most of the kids that work at my shop seem to think 50 years old is OLD!!

I will post pictures once I remember how to do it, it's been a while since I posted pictures

I been driving it now for the last 2 days and it handles really good for  a truck it really does not feels like you a driving a truck or is just me that feels that way maybe because I'm too tall I can't see that good on the side mirrors and the front windshield is too low for me

I'm gonna try to adjust the seat and see if I can lower it  a little bit

I figure motor vehicles pretty much reached the best of their designs for use vs ease of working on during the mid to late 60's. I still recall how simple my 63 Pontiac and 65 Impala were to own.
Congrats at getting one of USA's best.

I guess that makes all of you old since I'm 26. :P

FWIW it seems the 318, 340, 360 last awhile if taken care of.  My brother has an '00 Durango with the 5.9 Magnum that is just shy of 260K miles on it.

Ain't it the truth? I'm about 30 years older than my middle school students, so I feel that everyday!
