New TAC member, living North Shore MA, looking for a Bird!
« on: January 09, 2018, 05:30:41 PM »
Hey all, new guy here! I've got a super strong desire to acquire an early (70-73) Firebird/TA. I've had 2 2nd gen f body cars, one of which was an 80 TA.....301 auto. Lol. Actually wish I still had it, but it was sold over 20 years ago. Anyway, I've been searching CL, eBay, Autotrader Classics, etc. I've narrowed it down to an early bird. If I find a nice Firebird, I'll clone it into a TA. Seems early real TA's are super expensive now-a-days. I figure I can pickup a nice condition driver Firebird for $15 to $20k+ and then add fenders, shaker and wheel spats, etc.

Do any of you North'easters know of an early 2nd gen bird for sale that might not be listed on CL or ebay?

Oh, this summer I plan on making it to Foxboro for the Patriot Place cars shows....missed all of 2017 :(

Thanks guys, Happy New Year!

Johnny

Keep searching.
I seen a 1970-1/2 Trans Am Bare body shell and nothing more stripped down of every Nut & Bolt, Rust and Rot on Ebay about 5 years ago.
It sold for nearly $10,000.00.

Not even the front subframe was there.

But the Body Tag was there.
WS4 Code present
1970 1/2 Trans Am and Real.

On my Body tag of my 1970-1/2 TA.

Welcome to TAC, nice to have another MA member, I'm in Waltham. I think I saw a 72 Formula in NH but can't find the listing now. It's going to take some time but you can find a nice bird for that budget.

Yes, saw a maroon Formula with a little body rot for $6500 in NH.

What do you figure fenders, hood and shaker and the wheel flares would cost to purchase? A few grand?

There's a few cars out there in a bit higher price range, but they are not equipped as I would like, so they would need more put into them immediately.

Ideally I'd like a 72. The grill pattern is super cool honeycomb look. Plus, I'm also a 72 model....lol

What do you figure fenders very hard to find, I would get cut outs and weld a patch, hood $300 to 500 and shaker 70 to 72 set up very expensive, 73 to 76 about $500 for shaker and air cleaner and the wheel flares reproduction about $400, that's what I have would cost to purchase? A few grand?

Depending on the engine and carb/intake you will most likely need to change the intake and carb to 4v, if you can do the work yourself add another $600 to 700 (assuming the carb is rebuild)
