The only repro tanks I've seen are zinc galvanised  finished.....if you want ot paint it, do a little research on paint zinc bare metal parts, I believe the prep is a bit different to bare metal.
Project is looking great.

Thanks.

I think it looks quite nice as it is now, so I think I'll leave it. Maybe some thin coat of rust preventer that does dry  and does not change the color.

The project is proceeding a bit slowly as I need to do other things also but something done at least.
More tubing and wires installed. The motor is getting ready to be started soon.

Rest of smaller parts and the hood fixed and sanded.  Sprayed epoxy primer to them today, next some filler and then it's time to start prepping the whole car for paint with finer sanding.

You should have a good time in Vegas. Always something to do for sure.

Yes a lot to do and see here.
Another place not to miss is Shelby American even if you are not a Ford enthusiast.

Tried to find stores to buy parts for the bird but have not found one yet. Also my free time to find one gets limited now as the conference starts and it's why I'm here for.

Too bad , I’m just now reading this. I live in Vegas and could have given you some info on places to buy some car stuff. Plus recently I picked up a ton of Firebird parts that would might be useful for you.

Your project is a great build and looks like it is coming together quite well! Great job!

Thanks, yes I thought that there must be stores for old car parts also as the city is quite a big one. My plan is to visit Sema show some year so it's good to know who to ask stores to visit. We have a small f-body enthusiast group actually coming already this year, but I think my visits there are done for the 2018.

Sprayed some filler today, next I'll install the hood I think.

Oh yes. Have not driven a Pontiac 455 ever and can't wait to see how the car drives.
I have had two 2gen Camaros so I have a clue how it should drive.

Thanks.

A day off work yesterday and a long day with the Bird.

Whole car exept the hood is now sanded up to a 1000 grid and the hood is on. The nose cone is not in it's correct place yet so there is a gap to front of the hood.
As the car has had some kind of collision to passenger side front corner I still had to adjust the fender a bit with a hammer to make it fit properly with the hood.

So some more bondo and sanding and primer and sanding again needed before painting the car.

But back in fever again this morning so it seems the car will not be back on road this month either.

Painted.  Looks better in photo than it is so quite a bit of wet sanding needed before clear coat.

Thank you. I'm also planning to get a formula repro hood I did order and I'll use the one that looks and fits better. I may also change the hood from time to time to have a change how the car looks.

Yes I agree but needs to be done.

Installed wheels and dropped it to the ground first time with the hood and spoilers installed.  Front dropped quite low with added weight but still plenty of ground clearance. I'm actually starting to like the look of this hood more.

The early second gen's are not my personal favorite Firebirds, but I'm a big fan of yours. The stance looks great, I really like the hood too.  I'm not sure if you changed anything else appearance wise, but whatever you've done, I'm digging it!
Keep at it. I can't wait to see pics out in the sun and hopefully catch a video of that big 455 rumbling to life!
Nice job!

Thanks!

Changes done affecting the outside look so far are:

- drop springs
- 18 inch Vision wheels
- Trans Am spoiler and flares
- doors chrome trim delete
- backside chrome Pontiac text delete
- Fenders Firebird text delete

Palnning to do:

- blackout the back bumper
- blackout all window trims
- blackout door handles and locks
- blackout head lamp bezels
- blackout front grills

These will be blacked out with matt black paint or rubber paint.
So this will be more or less 'murdered' look excluding wheels I think. Just shiny one.

I have done couple of 2 gen Camaros earlier and I think 2 gen body lines are very nice but all shiny parts do mess the look if the target is a bit more modern pro touring look. If I'd keep all chrome look parts I'd target more like restoration look but this one was too far away from original to be restored.

Rest of the car has now clearcoat.
Needs some fixing but can be wet sanded to be good enough for street use planned. Not a show quality work by any means however.

Yes the project is getting more fun in this stage. The summer is indeed quite soon over here, but the plan is still to get this inspected and to drive this before is get's cold. I hope it will happen to get me some boost for rest of the project. It would also be good to know via test drive what I still need to fix during next winter to be able to drive all next season.

Tried to wet sand and polish upper part of the door to check how easy this clearcoat is to sand.  Needs quite a bit of work but gets shiny quite nicely.

Nice....some clearcoats are hard to polish...I recall my panel guy saying he wanted to buff mine out before it got too hard as he used a very tough clear on it.

Yes I agree. This clearcoat seems to need quite a bit of work.
The roof and another quarter are now wet sanded  and polished.

The problem now is that it has been the warmest summer I think ever here and it was about 90 degrees fahrenheits in my garage today and has been the same outside during daytime almost a month. It's getting just too hot for me to sand and polish the car. Maybe I need to do something else as long as it get's a bit colder.

Thanks.
I'll check how it looks under the sun and if it's ok then wax it properly to protect the clearcoat and if I'll find a good wax maybe make it look even more shiny as you said.

I've been also installing gaskets to the carb and also managed to find correct lenght accessory v belts. Holley is now ready and installed with all the wires so it's also getting ready to start soon.  If everything works fine the plan is to drive this to mandatory inspection before end of this month. After hopefully passed inspection it's ok to drive on road here. So there is still some hope to be able to test drive this before it gets cold here again.

During next winter the plan is to fix and refresh the interior if I don't need to rebuild the motor or trans.

Edit.  About the interior does anyone recognize what car this door panel and handle are from?  Most likely these are not original from a 71 Firebird?  Sorry for a bad photo.

It may be original one even if 71 panels I've found in some photos do look a bit different but maybe they did use several types.
I agree about the door pull it's from some other car and 67 Camaro's one does look similar.
