I would suggest going to a local truck stop to buy one. That's about the only place I know of that sells them now. You already have a handle (lonewolf), then start talking. I guess truckers still use them, I know locally they use them at the quarries to talk to the loaders. I cant imagine theyre too popular anymore though. There is a range of a few miles and the quality of the sound didn't use to be too good. Back in the heyday (Smokey and the Bandit) everyone had them. There was a language/code that was numbers, that everyone knew and used. We even had a "cheat sheet" printed on card stock that had all of the codes and what they meant.

Lonewolf, you can't get a CB until you can translate the lyrics of this song.   :-P

At the peak of the CB craze around 1978, my family and I drove from New Jersey to Alaska in an old '68 Ford 1 Ton Dually Tow Truck converted to carry a huge camper shell on the back.  Great times listening to the CB in the cab while we were "truckin" across America.  I remember talking to more than a few folks asking for a Bear report, traffic reports, and just BS'ing on the road.  I was 13 at the time.  We even hooked up with a few "baby" convoys and rolled a tad over the old "double nickle".  Of course the old Ford with its 352 2bbl and super low geared rear wouldn't do much over 70 on the highway anyway.

We even upgraded the CB before the trip from the old 24 channel unit to a new 40 channel unit from Sears!

That mustve been one heck of a trip. I'm sure you have some great memories from that adventure. And quite an upgrade to a 40 channel to boot!
