1979 Mayan Red W72/W50 Formula

If you have seen any of my other post, you will know I have a soft spot for W72 Formulas. I have owned a Platinum 79, Sundance 79 and most recently a 78 Carmine Red.

During last weekend's TA Nats, this car showed up and drew my interest. I had spoken to the man last year about it. I immediately put my 78 up for sale, sold it and made a deal for this 1979 Mayan red Ttop W72 Formula. It has 74k original miles and unfortunately the 2nd owner was not as easy on it as the original owner. Luckily he had all original documentation with the car.

I picked up the car and drove it 5 hours home yesterday. The car runs very strong. I have some work to do with some issues but my hope is to save most of the original paint. I put the car on my lift and found several of the original markings under the car and hope to do my best to preserve them as well.

That's great, Jeff! (I think I still like the yellow on best, though.)
It's good that you have a car to drive since you turned the Fire Am over to your son!

Nice car. There is a red 79(or 80,81) formula very near me. It is one of those typical parked beside the trailer and let it rot. The guy does have a cover on it, for whatever that's worth. I asked about it a year ago and got the "its my dads and he doesn't want to sell it". I told him I respected his decision, gave him my no. and asked him to call if he changes his mind. After seeing this car, I think its time to stop by again.

this formula remind me another formula.

this formula is stock or well redone...but sure it is a stock car bevause the decal lost some red ....and become white.
why ? most of the time the rear spoiler new decal is lower than on your pic from the rear. in fact installed like trans am spoiler decal. it is a major error because this decal is higher than trans am decal.

jeff its crazy how i tried to buy that exact car two months ago at a local cruise in near me.  guy was not looking to sell at the time and he thought this formula was gold.  i got him thinking when asking what he would sell it for when and if he ever wanted to sell.  glad he came down to reality for you jeff and a fair deal was made.  trust me that car was rescued.  glad you made it home safe.
