Parting out a 301
« on: February 11, 2017, 06:32:47 PM »
Hello all. last spring i pulled the 301 out of my 1980. I know the 301 isnt a motor people are beating each other up to get,and i really dont have room to store it. I sold the intake to someone and now im thinking about taking it to scrap.. My question is there anything worth keeping and trying to sell?i have the pulleys and brackets that i know i can sell, or at least try.lol Is there much that will work on another motor? I think valve covers and oil pan will but is it worth my time taking the heads off? and will the crank work in anything other then a 301? or manifolds? i think i will sand blast those and coat.. Any ideas will help. Thanks everyone...CD

I wouldn't bother if I were you, take off the easy parts and list on ebay, scrap everything else.

If it is a true 1980 301, it will be a turbo block.  It will say 301T on the side next to the freeze plug.

The only parts worth anything will be what is interchangeable with a turbo 301.

Timing cover with plastic timing tab
Driver's side exhaust manifold
Harmonic balancer
Heads
Block
Rods

The crank is the same except it doesn't have the rolled fillets in the corners of the bearing journals.
Pistons are flat top instead of dished
Oil pan doesn't have the baffle in it like a turbo pan, but the pan will fit other Pontiac V8s

I would be interested in these parts, but it depends on where you are located.
