That's probably because most Pontiac guys don't like to see Chevy engines put into Birds that came with Pontiac engines. Sorry, but that's just the way it is.

You can probably Google up lots of info on the subject. Probably find plenty of info on some of the Chevy and Camaro sites.

Especially an older model like a 1973. I'd do all I could to keep a Poncho motor in that.

You'll need Camaro SBC motor mounts and frame mounts.
Your frame may or may not have the holes drilled from the factory.  I know the later model frames are drilled.
If you are keeping the Pontiac trans you'll need an adapter plate to mate the chevy motor to it.  Or use a chevy trans.
Fuel lines from tank to engine bay are on opposite sides so is the battery tray.

If you look at under hood pics of a Camaro you'll get an idea of what's needed.  If you can find a Camaro with the engine still to scavenge parts from that would be good too.
70-81 Firebirds and TA's have been powered by SBC's, olds, Buicks and Pontiacs so don't feel like an outsider.

Nothing wrong with a Chevy motor in a Bird. My last 79 Firebird had a sbc in it when I bought it. Replaced the stock 305 with a mild 4-bolt 350. Lots of room and lots of parts available. I did have to use a lower profile air cleaner to clear the hood though. That was likely due to intake manifold choice.
Good luck!
