Today I bought 2 BRAND NEW 1996 Ski Doo snowmobiles. Under 200 miles on them. Had to drive 250 miles to pick them up but they were almost free they were so cheap.  They were a client of mines. He and his wife bought them new and only rode them a few times. He fogged them, drained the carbs and put stabil in them (which didn't help the 22 year gas... They were stored in a climate controlled room on the house. One was on its original pallet/crate.

Never been on one, we don't get enough snow to run them, sounds like a good opportunity for a quick flip with our friends up north, eh!

I have always had one but they are really old, like 1974... we can usually run them pretty much every year.  The kids will love them. But... if I was smart, I would flip them. I could more than double my money.  I may try to trade off the big one for a quad.

I thought those were watercraft at first.  Never been on one, either.  Although....  I like the green one just because it says "SUMMIT" on it.

Got the red one running.  Cleaned the tank and removed and cleaned the carbs. I ordered a new primer as the seals were all dried out and it leaks fuel everywhere.

Now, the green one has issues.  The fuel has eaten all of the lines inside the tank and all of the grommets the lines run through.  Also the sludge inside the tank is like roof cement and red tacky grease.... I finally got the tank cleaned up after a bunch of rinses with large bolts thrown in to help break things up. I finally poured sea foam straight in and let that sit for a few minutes.  That stuff really loosened up the junk in there.

Now I will have see what the carbs look like on that one. Not good I'm assuming... Below is the red one pictures.

Before, main jet gummed up.

Floats gummed up, won't float..

Clean.

Turned out nice. Good thing you have the knowledge to take things apart, most people would've most likely put gas and tried to start, then wonder why they wouldn't run!

Formta make sure you clean the pilot jet also. It is down the hole beside the main jet. It screws out with a flat screwdriver. Any crud in it will cause it to run lean and burn a hole in a piston.

I read the thread on PY. I'm too lazy to take apart a car that looked so good (even if there were hidden things). I know the amount of work it takes to take them apart and put them back together.

Great work, it will be one really nice car.

The more tedious part of these restos.   I like how your Lemans tuned out.

I found the parts to the pressure washer, it won't start of course.  Kim has not run it in 3 years - I will buy some ether and give it a squirt but I think it needs some love at the Honda repair shop.

Ether got it to run for a few seconds, so I pulled off the carb and blew WD40 (all I had nozzled) thru it and now runs - though not great.

Hopefully fresh gas will solve it completely.

I should say I’ve been doing a lot of scraping dirt and grime. I’m just trying to get as much dirt off before I power wash it because I don’t want the dirt to become mud .

The other day, we hosted an Xmas party.  I got tired of people very quickly, so I snuck in the garage and fired up the TA.  A buddy came out and said "Dang that's running rich!"

I was disappointed to hear that.  I had thought it ran fine....

If I still had a carburated engine I would install O2 sensors so I could tell where it was at and adjust.  But I gave up and went EFI.

My son was out to help me move this from the garage, back out too the sea can. I will put this rusty block in a barrel and fill it with diesel to remain stored until I decide what I want to do with it.

My son (28yo) has very little to no interest in cars, he is big into guitar collecting and playing. I have custody of my 7yo grandson (my daughters child) that loves cars right now. He has claimed the TATA im restoring as 'his car'. He will come out in the shop with me, and when I go out by myself he will ask if I am working on his car. I started to watch garage squad last night and he wouldn't let me change the channel. He watched the entire episode. It was funny when they struggled with a part on the show he told me to pay attention so I wouldn't have the same problem when I was fixing 'his car'.

My 7 y.o. loves electronic stuff, computers pads etc. He loves Teslas because they have a big screen in the middle of the dash. He has already pointed out to me how he wants the dash of the Trans Am to be laid out with the touch screen as well as multiple chargers throughout the car,

So today I continued with a job I started on Tuesday with my 93 Exciter 570 St/Lt snowmobile. I took apart the skis and corresponding linkage to the steering components so that i could put new bushings and bolts in and make it safe to drive. While I was waiting for parts my dad had picked up for me, I went through his stainless selection of screws and found what I needed to put the windshield back on after I get it painted black.

After the parts came in, well most of them, I put the skis back on and decided to address the fact that the machines starter wasn't working properly. I took all kinds of things apart, trying to follow wires and see if there was a short in circuit and it now looks like a grenade went off near it. All that work went into taking it apart just to find out that there is no starting solenoid on the machine anywhere. Had I realized that at the beginning, I wouldn't have had to take much apart. On the plus side, all the wiring looked in good shape. Next session is to put everything back together, instal a solenoid and see if it will fire up with the key!! Sadly, I didn't take any pictures as I didn't think there would be much interest. If I'm wrong, I'll take some its current status on Monday when I go back out!

Today Santa came early and dropped off a 4 post lift for me!

I've been wanting one of these for a long time and my wife finally gets her parking space back inside the garage, so everyone is happy!
The bird gets the top perch until spring since it's too cold right now for body work.

that's awesome. I anxiously await the hoist we end up getting. I anxiously await for the money to manifest itself to pay for it too...lol

Looks like Santa was pretty good to you Gene! I would love to have a 4 post, not sure I would trust my wife parking under it though, I could see her hitting a post on the way in!
