Took the morning and read through this thread again, gave me some smiles. Today the car is at a speed shop swapping out the TH350 with an overdrive 200r4 transmission. I'm hoping to get up to Ohio next year and see some of you up there. I'll definitely post dates as soon as the trip is solidified.

Why the swap? Did you have problems or just an upgrade.

Jack is kinda on the right track, over the years I've taken the car on quite a few long trips and cruising at 65 - 70 and the RPM's humming at around 3500 is bit more stress on the motor than I'd like. It has never given failed me and cruised just fine but, I'd like it down a few more RPM's and get better MPG at the same time. And the 200r4 lower 1st and 2nd won't hurt in a quarter mile either :D So ya, just an upgrade. The tranny in the car is for sale, TH350 rebuilt about 10 or so years ago, has about 10k miles on it and has a shift kit, and works great, nothing wrong with it. Just would like the overdrive instead of the three speed auto.

2.23 posi-track out of a '77 trans am I believe. The car originally came to me with a 4.11 rear end, a pal of mine had a 2.56 rear so replaced the 4.11 with that, I broke that and found a friend here on the forum some years ago who had pontiac rear end.

Thanks. Sorry to sidetrack. I’m just trying to decide whether to pair a 3.23 or 3.08 with my 4 speed when I replace it.
