Exhaust system compatibility: 301 vs. 400
« on: December 19, 2013, 11:49:17 AM »
Hi,

The previous owner of my 1979 Redbird had a nice new dual exhaust system installed when the car had its stock 301 engine.  He removed the engine (ugh) and replaced it with a SBC which I promptly removed after purchase.   He never finished the SBC butcher so the exhaust is still "301".  I do not have a 301 to replace the old engine but I do have two 455s.

I will be using stock manifolds.   Will the exhaust system reach the 400/455 manifold outlet locations?   Does anyone know for sure?

Thanks in advance.

Check out the down pipes from Pypes.......looks like they might be longenough to reach the rest of your system.

Thanks for responding, 4spd.  So the 301 exhaust pipes won't quite reach the 400/455 manifolds, huh?   Bummer.  I was hoping everything would line up.
