Unfortunately this complete 77 Esprit was total RUST !

Making it a "roller"

Interior looks nice.

Never Had a Lug Nut rust in half like this before.

Engine was said to be "good"

Check out the high tech shaker mount.

Kept the 231 Buick V6 out of it.

Firewall only rusted on bottom.

Engine after pressure wash.

Prepping the good sub frame.

And all Por15

Engine painted and going in good sub frame. Started engine to make sure it ran before swapping.

Issues found in "good" car.

Explains why the front end is red under blue/green and the shell is light blue under blue/green.

The Fix.

Remove cowel end.

"This car is on FIRE!!!!!!

Broken shock bolts.

Got a hood.

found a spare set of Keys.

Not going together correctly.

Better!

The 77, Yea I took the carpet out and the door sills and roof where all that was holding it together.   The other car that I did not get a photo of before I started is a 80 that had a Chevy 350 with trans removed from it before I got it as a roller. Originally got it just for the 78 front end that was on it. It sat in my back yard for 15yr. They are or where both T/A clones.  I came across a formula hood cheap and was making the car for winter and the formula hood has no hole in it (shaker) to let snow and ice collect in. I put a 79-81 nose back on it. will keep the 77 door panels in it. It is sort of nice compared to the other project that needed almost everything redone. I am going to paint this one Martenique blue. Not light blue as original. Running is first objective on both projects.

Photo shows 80 bird on right in back of shell. nose for it came off one on left.

Am at the point it is ready to start. I want it running before I start finish body work for repaint.  Have a few electrical issues to work out yet.  Horn blows when I turn on the lights!   Spits and wants to start with gas poured in the carb. Trying to get gas line off carb to check for gas flow.

Interesting...looks like you have an earlier model rad support in it? Seems like it fits OK.  :-D

Nice job, most would have passed on that clone. Can't wait to see some more progress.

It will start on its own, but have not worked on getting it to idle. It looks mean in the front end. It sits up so high. have v8 springs and only a 6cyl.  will get a photo soon. Got the steering pump line issue worked out.  Involved in another project. Got to learn to say "No", but the price was real good.

Mark,
My compliments to you for bringing another 2nd gen Firebirdback from the dead, even if it's only in parts. A running Firebird, even with a V-6, is better than no engine at all.

Thanks. I am leaning more towards putting it back to stock Esprit looks. They seam to be harder to find.

Thanks, working with what I can afford as I find it . Originally got car just for the 78 front end nose that was on it. Kind of cool to run across parts to turn it back towards original!

Is this a restoration or an autopsy?

Seriously, you are energetic and ambitious.  Nice work.

It runs but does not Idle on own. Brakes work but need more work. Plan to do body paint prep work this spring. It got stuck in a holding pattern.
