Similar.....
a Pro-Touring car is basically a vehicle thats been upgraded to modern sports car handling and other vehicle specifications....like the brakes, instrumentation, audio, trim etc etc
a Resto-Mod is more likely to be a little more "old school" in the modifications....may not be as cutting edge in the engineering etc.

My car would be a toss up between being called resto-mod or budget pro-touring....either way would probably be a reasonable description.

Listening to the folks on the Meecum Auto Auction, they were describing resto-modding as the addition of "period correct" aftermarket parts and upgrades while pro-touring was seen as a larger deviation towards technological improvements.

I couldn't substantiate that definition and many seem to use it interchangeably.

I have heard many different definitions of what people think and the conclusion that I have come to is that pro-touring is more of an all out, high dollar build. Where most everything on the car is custom, frame, suspension, engine, etc.

Where as the Resto-mod retains many of the original features of the car. Where select things on the car have been modified. I call my car a resto-mod because I have the factory engine, trans, rear, and interior. While the paint, suspension, brakes and HVAC(Shaved Firewall eventually will have Vintage Air) have been modified.

I think that anyone's definition is going to be correct. It just another way to name a car that has been modified. It is all about perspective.

I have heard of Trad Mod used in the hotrod scene.  Some of those guys go as far to use period correct copper lines and stuff reclaimed from old
buildings.  Ofcoarse you have to buy some things new though.  Not for me but cool "rules" to apply to your build.
