Are you referring to the gold bumper arrow? A guy in AZ, a parts guy thats been doing it for a long time showed me a arrow with the gold chrome, it just looks tarnished to me, I'm not convinced, and I have my build sheet, it's a Van Nuys car, april 78, and the dealer told me most likely it was one of the dealer GM's car for the year in 1978. I got involved w/ my own site and don't get on here much.

I have my orig door handle cups, in time those are turning camel, the chrome is wearing off, and take the gold painted grills, they have a diff part # than than black ones, I have a NOS black set I got 20 years ago w/ the diff part #s. here are my orig crotch vents, I put a fresh set in 15 years ago, ( sure glad I saved them)

I am shocked this has gone on so long.

There were not gold plated vents or gold colored seat back trim or gold plated arrow head surrounds/metal on the front bumper cover.

I poured through these cars when they were new. It never occured/happened or was made by GM.

You have some obvious custom parts that are probably pretty nice, but in no way were they original.

those lap vents were molded in some sort of yellow colored plastic that was chrome plated.

aftermarket ones I have seen have been blue plastic, black plastic and a milky white plastic and then chrome plated in a silver chrome. Gold tinted chrome plating would be pretty sharp, especially in a dark colored interior.

WRONG ... those parts were mold injected w/ the same plastic that most of the parts were made of, do you even know how to chrome plate plastic ? 1st the part is primed than put into a vacuum than air is removed than aluminum  powder is vaporized and introduced to the chamber as a fog, coats the parts and you got chrome plated plastic . as for the arrow head i know for dam sure they are for real i held one in my hand and saw one on a y88 4 spd.

Please post pics of these rare arrow heads. I saw one, it just tarnishes over time, I have 2 NOS gold ones, ones old, maybe it's tarnished, I'll check tomorrow.

i don't know how it could tarnish the part is encased in clear acrylic resin, that makes the smooth surface i don't have any of the gold chrome ones but i do have a gold one that is cracked and i see no tarnishing .

Like I posted on the first page....these items just do not exist, at least not on an original car or from a GM parts counter. Like alot of guys here, I've been around these car since they were new and have seen literally hundreds of Y code SEs.......never seen these "gold" parts.

well since everyone is chiming in i was trying to be nice and see what they had to say/ show....but again all of my cars....nope...don't have them....oh and BTW our 74 SD red car with white and red deluxe interior has gold seat trims....or maybe they're yellowed.........as for the arrow gold chrome....how could it tarnish??  How does the paint wear out of them if they're sealed?

There is no need to curse or discount someones post entirely just because they don't know the process you mentioned.  The original survivors in pristine condition don't lie and without documentation these items are really cool original looking mods.  I am locking this post before it goes beyond parts.
