Ordered my seat covers at the end of Nov., std black 71-75, for the TA and they were drop shipped direct from PUI and I received them within a day. When I took them out of the box to check them out, this is what I found on the bag.....

I looked them over really well and I couldn't find anything wrong with them. They looked just like the originals. But, I did call the place I ordered them from and asked them why the bag had the Made in China sticker on it when their website listed them as being Made in the USA? I emailed them the picture of the bag and they were going to contact PUI and ask them.

The reply I received back:

Keith,

I did contact PUI and asked about the covers.  I was told on some parts mainly Black colored upholstery that they are made in China.  This is going to be hard to describe the parts as USA Made because some time they are and other times they are made in China.  I am still waiting a complete list of parts PUI has made in China to redo our listings to reflect that and not say Made in the USA.  I do apologize for the delay in responding and I will have the listings fixed as soon as i get all the data.

Thank you,

Ben Tucker

Today I called and talked to a woman in the sales dept at PUI and asked her about this. She said yes some of their parts are made in China, but made to PUI specs and were inspected for quality before being shipped out to the customers. And that they are going to start listing that some parts they sell are not made in the USA. I asked what the warranty was for the seat covers and she said it was 2 years. I then said that your competition has a lifetime warranty on theirs and she said as long as you kept your receipt that they would stand behind their product and take care of any warranty issues.
I think the covers are made and fit very well...the pattern is as close to the originals as you could get....plus they are softer, more pliable, than the originals. So far, I happy with them....time will tell how well they hold up.
The only seat covers I can do a review on are the ones I purchased for my car.....1975 Trans Am with black std interior.

Mine look and fit like the originals...so far I don't have a problem with PUI's.....I posted this here because when I ordered them they were listed as being Made in the USA. If there had been any problems with them I would have sent them back.

I was unaware that there was more than one manufacture of seat covers at the time. That and the fact that they were suppose to have been Made in the USA. Yeah everyone sells them but the only name that kept coming up was PUI....just like carpet is ACC.

I would like to see a picture of your seats I bet you that your seats have wrinkles in them. Every PUI seat cover I've seen on a Trans am looks like doo doo^ with wrinkles.

Those standard seats look very nice. Nice installaton. For 73-77 I prefer standard trim to the horsecollars, especially 70-74.

I looked yesterday and they changed the listing and it doesn't say Made in the USA anymore.

Maybe just the bag was made in China. Laughing   They look pretty nice to me, Aldo is correct about the wrinkles.  I will honestly say that there has never been a repop seat cover that looked as good as a NOS set, you can just tell that they ar'nt original.   I personaly would always try to repair my original's before I went the repop route and that statement is across the board for all parts.

I thought about having them repaired but after I got them out and up to the upholstery shop, we noticed that the back rest was all dry rotted and split everywhere and so was the seat bottom. Labor would have been a lot to repair them. These new covers are as close to the originals as you could get and unless I tell someone they've been replaced they'll never know. This new vinyl is a lot softer.....hopefully they'll hold up over time.

Wish PUI the best with that decision.  Its unfortunate that the hobby has taken this path.  Though its tough managing overseas supplier from a distance.  We have staff on site just for this reason as once you leave they just do want they want...hope PUI has considered what happens when a container of junk shows up and customers are upset.

Well that's a chance that any company will take to save a
Buck most of the time it works out ok that's why everything goes to
China because they can make the goods, not trying to say this is correct because I'm
Against it totally but this is what it has come to and no one does anything about it....

I'm happy with my PUI seat covers, but mine are tan so they may be from USA.  When I ordered them, I wasn't paying any attention as to where they were made.

You'd think that the price would reflect the cheaper price they/you paid for the Chinese price...

That's the whole purpose to having stuff made in China to have it made cheaper so they can still sell it at a premium price so their profit margin is greater in turn they make more money and you the customer get a lesser quality part that only last a short time. Most companies don't care about the end user any more they just care about the bottom line and how to increase profits. Stuff used to last 20 or 30 yrs now our lucky to get 5 out of some stuff.
