I went with a Butler built shortblock. It's a 455 block. 30 over with a 4.250 stroke, forged h beam rods and pistons. Total of 468 cubic inches. The green cord you see is to keep the motor in place till i get the trans back in place. Can't wait to get it going again and see how this car runs when it's firing on all 8 with full compression.

Good afternoon all. This has been the most annoying engine swap i have ever done. First the timing cover needed heli coils where it meets up with the oil pan. Then the oil pan wouldn't line up with the timing cover. Balance needed extra work to pull onto the eagle crank. Hopefully it pulled all the way down. When i went to install the trans; it would not turn, so it wouldn't spline into the clutch, so i had to tear it apart and put new cover shaft bearings on. Now the trans is waiting to be installed so i can finish everything else. It's been one of those kinds of builds this time.

These things always seem to happen!!!

It can make a project so darn frustrating but dont let up. The results will speak for themselves when you get the bugs worked out of it!!!

I'm not gonna let up. Just gets annoying at times.

More about the trans and the counter shaft bearings. Put new bearings on and pt the case together and the problem was still there. Pulled it back apart and started staring at everything. Noticed something weird about the counter shaft. It had some weird markings on it. Come to find out the plug that is removed to check preloads was threaded so far in that it was contacting the countershaft. Backed it out and fixed everything. Hopefully I'll be staying and breaking in the new shortblock this weekend.

New problems. 2 to be exact. Got the motor running. Definitely runs different and better than the last. Does rev allot easier and quicker, so it'll be interesting once i get to drive it for real. During the initial run and looking for leaks. 1st. Found a leak. Where the oil pan meets the timing cover and block; it is leaking from there. 2nd. When i was cleaning up the garage i found a washer that seemed familiar. So i sent a pic of it to tick performance and low and behold. I have to drop the trans. Again. ????????????????

It's one of the thrust washers in the tail housing portion. Not too bad, but annoying that i have to drop it out to put it in there.

New problem cropped up yesterday. Was running the motor to do some more break in and have the base timing set at 13 degrees. Crack the throttle; comes back down to idle and the timing is off. Arg. More troubleshooting. Seems this time the build is if it ain't one thing it's another.

Now it's gotten more interesting. I hook up a timing light to cylinder 1 and I'm at 13 degrees along with cylinder's 3 and 6. The others are all over the place.  :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

Found a crack in the distributor cap on the #8 terminal. Gonna get a new cap and rotor kit to fix that part. Maybe that'll fix the whole thing. Otherwise I have no clue after that.

Dumb question time....Would the wrong cam in this cause some of the issues you're having?

Finally figured out my problem. The whole time the plug gaps were wrong. Regapped them to .45 and everything works perfectly.

Well. This past weekend i pulled the trans out to install the thrust washer i forgot to install. Well..... during reassembly and pressing the speedometer tone ring on.... it blew apart. So now i need to pull it back apart in a few weeks. I did put new axle bearings in and put a moser diff cover on. Might need to have the exhaust adjusted for clearance. Next weekend I'll be doing an upgrade. It'll be an awesome upgrade. I'll post up everything this weekend.

Here's the next project. They're 13 inch rotors with 4 piston fixed calipers. They came with a new spindle and assembled on the spindle. One neat feature is they have the spot for an abs sensor, so that could open up another upgrade later down the road. I'll post up more pics later this week as it goes together.

Well I finally got the brakes installed. Had to get a pair of 1/2'' spacers for the rims to clear the caliper. When I was checking for clearance's; the corners of the caliper were still way too close. So I filed a little bit off the corners to give a little more clearance. Everything with the brakes are good now. Probably gonna order a new pair of rims to suck the wheel back into the wheel well to where it was before.

Found a leak at the intake to water pump seal and spent the past few day's fixing that and trying to figure out my other coolant leak at the radiator. Well the Bee-Cool radiator is no good. It has a leak where the tubes go into the tank. It's right at 2 years old. Be-Cools warranty is only a year. So I'm goin with a different brand this time. A Cold Case this time. Has a limited lifetime warranty and it should fit alot better than the Be-Cool. The Be Cool is a tight fit to our cars and I wasn't really happy with the fit.
