No more SOLICITING ON TAC
« on: January 19, 2009, 08:14:21 AM »
I am sorry to announce this, but effective today solicitation of any kind is strictly prohibited from the pages of the TAC website unless it is sponsored by the TAC website staff.  It hurts me to put any kind of restraints on the community, because supporting one another is one of our strongest attributes.  Of late some of these solicitations have appeared to take advantage of the community and I cannot allow that ever.

Solicitations would include asking for financial assistance, parts, cars and car transports.  The TAC website staff reserves the right to extend this rule at anytime to preserve the community’s interest.  Any post that violates this “NO SOLICITING” rule will be removed without warning.  Any solicitation post currently posted will be reviewed.

If you feel you have a valid solicitation please send the request to any of the TAC website staff for review.
Thanks,
Mike B

I think MR. B is afraid that the very kind folks here will donate labor or parts for a good will project, then the project dies or the folks lose interest or something else happens and all the goods and services donated are kept and not returned to the people who donated them.  It's like the who situation of donating $100 to a charity and the charity only gets $5 and the company soliciting gets $95.  NOT COOL.  I think there was a very recent issue with a car that will not be finished after goods were donated.  I searched for the thread, but could not find it. It may have been deleted.  I will not mention the thread or the author.

Thanks, I figured it was something like that, but didn't recall anything that I had read which threw up any red flags.  I guess I must have overlooked it, or more likely, it happened when my cookies barfed and I had to try to guess which posts I hadn't read.

I'll be very direct and say it is something that has been building for the past year.  You have to understand that it is very hard for me to rationalize removing any post where someone asks for help, but now it is occuring more and more and that is not what TAC is for.  I don't want TAC to be an incubator for such requests.  Eitherway you look at it TAC will appear to be apart of the request and some may feel obligated to give due to that perceived affliation.  Likewise the givers will feel slighted by TAC should the requestor not hold up their end of the request.

I would rather not name names, as any misconduct with donated funds/etc... is between that person and God.

Thanks to all for their support.

As for the few that have PM'd me.  I see no value in naming names, so I'd prefer not to discuss this matter.

Just wanted to remind those in the community that this rule is still active.
