My next project bird, ... LS2X
« on: June 07, 2010, 06:16:48 PM »
Now that the '73 bird is almost ready to come back home I thought I would give a "sneak peak" into my next project. This one should go quicker than the last one .............

............ hopefully

I was going to wait until I actually started on it to reveal it, but since there is an almost identical one on my 2010 calendar for the month of June(sans white interior) I thought I would go ahead and post it since it is on my mind everyday now thanks to the calendar.  :-P It may be a couple of more months until there is some actual progress pics since it isn't being started on just yet, but it is next in line.  :-D

Here is a pic of the one on my calendar.

I figured I would bring this thread back from the dead since not everything has gone according to plan so far.  I thought I would be starting on it roughly 2 years ago but that hasn't happened .....  :o

I am one of those kinda guys that wants to cherish as much time with my wife and kids as possible so it has led to not so much time spent with the birds lately. Anyway, I know putting my family over the birds is definately the right choice and I will not have any regrets down the road so I have decided that, for the time being, I will get this bird back on the road even if it isn't restored to her former glory yet.

Anyway, here is a pic of her current condition.  :-)

I didn't get the carb on her tonight, it was my daughters birthday and daddy was mostly focused on her. Some friends that I text have told me to post more pics, so here goes. :-D

She is a little rough around the edges(and super dusty everywhere), but overall a very solid car!

This is the worst part of her and my body guy has told me that he can fix it without cutting all the metal out.  :-)

I love this angle.  :-)

Interior needs new carpet(and a bunch of armor all), but otherwise in pretty good shape for her age.

Surface rust on the floorboards but no holes.  :-)

And yes, she came from the factory with the coveted rear center console. I need to see if I can have that one fixed.

And she might have one more surprise.

This sticker was last renewed in 1979 and ....

... if you take a renewal in 1979(she would have been 5 years old) and multiply that times 12k miles per year average and you come up with ....

Obviously I can't verify the mileage to be correct at 58,634, but there are a few signs that indicate it might be possible. Shakerz came over one time and looked it over fairly good and he thought it could be possible too.

are those super duty 500's?

They say 600 on them. I still don't know if those shocks were specific to the superduty birds or not though.  :???:

Mark, thank you. My wife quit her job too so she could be a stay at home mom and neither one of us has regreted that. In fact, I get a little envious of her doing that cause I wish I could spend more time with them too.

I do need to find that perfect balance between them growing up with memories of riding around/working on the t/a's with mom and dad and mom and dad doing the things that kids really enjoy doing. We get a lot of people that tell us how smart and well behaved they both are so I think we are doing good so far.

Thanks for clearing that up, they were so worn out, they came right out of the car.

The sensa trac's that I put on there should feel great! I should also be done with the brakes today so hopefully this evening I will be able to take her out on a short cruise around the block. And judging by the condition of that carb before I rebuilt it, all the crud in the brake lines, etc... ,there is no telling how long it has been since she has actually been driven!!
