The new motor will just have more of what the last gave us. The main difference will be a new rod and piston combination. We will be using a shorter 6.700 rod this time to keep piston rock at a minimum. With the long stroke the piston seems to need more stability in the bore.

        Other short block changes:

 1. Ross 17 cc dome pistons (13.5 to 1)
 2. Spotts Crank scraper
 3. Lighter piston ring pack (for vacuum pump)(0.43 top ring)
 4. Eagle Steel 6.7" rods
 5. Comp Cams Larger Roller camshaft
 6. Going 60 over (501 cid)
 7. BOP one piece pan gasket
 8. PPR Windage Tray

We may kick around more ideas but this is where it will start. Looking for a late april/early may completion.

Are you going to dyno it?  What do you expect to put down for power?

Good luck with the season  Cool

I am looking for direct power from the vacuum pump(lighter ring pack),compression point and the larger solid roller cam.I have some other changes to be made in smaller areas but dont expect a ton from them. I would say on the conservative side we should see a 30 hp increase and on the high side maybe 50. So at the crank 575hp/725tq on the high side. But, yes I plan to chassis dyno it in comparison to the #2 build that bested 432/588 at the wheels.

The pistons are on order as well as the rods. We are going to stay with the steel rods after kicking the aluminum idea around for awhile. No news yet on the head flow so the new cam will have to wait on those numbers. I am still kicking around a new set of heads on the cnc machine.

 Thanks!

I got the fuel cell back. Its not perfect so it will require some tweaking. The truck cutoff is done. I used the gas sending unit wire body pass thru to install the cutoff...then bent up a steel rod thru the tag for the knob. We are still a couple of weeks out on the pistons. Once I get the tank back in the car I plan to hide/route the vacuum pump hose to the empty battery case up front.

I just got the professional Etown print back. I may hang one in the garage and one in the trailor. The pic alone was almost worth the trip to NJ.

The trunk is now 100% complete down to the mat fitment.

The tank is in as well. I bench tested the pump running 40 gallons thru it then cleaning the filter. Now that everything is in the tank it will be hard to service unless I drop the tank. So, I wanted to be sure there were no issues. The new fuel cell holds 7.5 gallons.

Moving to the vacuum pump...

Thus far I have started on the valley pan. The hardest part is over. I drilled out all 22 spot welds and seperated the baffle. After a good cleaning I drilled out the back of the pan to install a nipple for the pump hose. I will pull the vacuum from the rear..it should hide well and allow hose routing to hide as well.

Currently the pan is getting acetylene welded. I tack welded over the spot weld areas but they needed a dressing to be slick.I will post a pic when I get it back.

And the Pistons....

Jim tells me that the Pistons are in hand and the short block assy should start in about 2 weeks. I should have him the cam by then as well. It's 252/262 @ .050 .400" intake lobe with a .420" exhaust lobe 114 lsa.

The trunk looks great Jay. I didn't realize u ran a transverse muffler. Can't wait to see the mods on the valley pan. That is a killer cam.

I got the cam this week and shipped it to Jim. Here are the card specs...

  Lift                   .600   .630  with 1.5 rockers   .684   .718  with 1.65 rockers ( I plan to try both)
  Duration at .050   252   262
  Lobe seperation    114
  Lobe lift              .4000   .4200

Everyone involved with the new build had a hand in the cam selection. I would have liked to go 115 on the LSA but everything else made sense. Depending on how it performs I may try a couple of others...but, I am pretty confident this will work well. I see it making peak power about  6300-6400.

I have decided to have SD performance prepare a set of 4x's for me. This may push things back slightly but I wanted to give it a try on the CNC machine. He has some 4x cores in stock. Of course my old 4x set would be for sale if anyone is interested.

Jim says the shortblock will begin to go together next week. Piston to valve clearance is my only reservation right now.
