TAC Guys,
I know this is un-firebird so I posted here in the Lobby.
I was at the J.Yard this morning and found a '76(?) CAN-Am. The sheetmetal looked to be in very good condition (alhtough the floor boards were non-existent), with all the original decals, markings, etc. The hood had a little minor surface on the hidden edges rust but not even so much as a ding in it. THe motor and shaker were gone but, the dash (red) looked to be unmolested and un-cracked. The rear spoler ends were still installed and looked perfect although the trunk lid appears to have been replaced as the center spoiler section was missing and there was no evidence it had ever had a spoiler on it (no bolt holes). Stangely, the trunk lid was the proper color (white). It also had the full set of White Rally II's with center caps in decent shape. The grills/Nose, tail section, & both bumpers looked to be real nice shape also.
Kinda wondering if it's worth my time (or $$) to grab any of the parts off this thing? The J.Yard owner says it's slated for crushing in the next few weeks or so. If I tell him I'm interested in anything he'll keep it laying around a couple additional weeks. Maybe these Can-Am parts would be swappable for some of the items I need for my T/A?
I know there are a couple guys around this board that have CAN-Am's so if anyone needs anything off one of these send me a note. If you're in the Atlanta region I'll just tell you where to find it.
Thoughts?
Kurt
P.S. Does anyone know if the "Can-Am Guys" have a web-site?

Will he sell the complete car as is ?????
machota 154 & Lostsoul, I don't really know if he'd sell the whole car.... I never asked about it nor did I ask about pricing for any specific part off of it. This yard tends to be a little more expensive than the Pull-A-Parts I frequent, but not too bad. Judging by the overall organization of this yard (no organization), I think they guy may have been just trying to see if he could make a sale by telling me the car was headed for the crusher.... Unfortunately, the place does not offer and Sunday hours so I can't go take any photos or get any specific pricing until next weekend. Really, the only reason I posted this is because one of my Magazines (I think it was HP Pontiac) had a relatively recent cover article on these cars. I honestly didn't even know these things were for real until I had read about them. I've never seen one on the road, car show, or elsewhere. It just seems to be a shame to see one of these, in not toooo bad condition, go to waste when I'm sure some guy out there is as desperate for a couple of original pieces to restore one of them. I have been equally as desperate to find pieces for my T/A & Z-28. If anyone actually OWNS one of these wants it, PM me and I'll send the JunkYard's Name, Address, & Phone Number. This yard MAY be willing to pull parts and send them to you. If you like, I can PROBABLY get over there next weekend and really evaluate the entire car thoroughly and inspect parts you may want from them. Sincerely, Kurt

The hood is worth saving and I would be interested in it if you get it. And yes, 77 is the only year they were built.

I had a '77 Can Am a few years back and it went MIA here in Atlanta. Are you sure it's a '76,you can tell by looking at the VIN.If it's a Can Am it will have a "Z" or "K" for the engine code.Plus they were ALL built in Detroit so it would have a "P" for the build plant.I wish i could always bought it back,it had a sweet 400 that went 13:20's in my T/A.

Thats a car worth saving, they are very rare. You have to like A bodies of that vintage, though...luckily...I do! Would love to own a Can Am.

....Are you sure it's a '76..... I wasn't sure but the J.Yard had scribbled '76 on the window with a crayon. I also found a little about these and it's obviously a '77. It looks PRECISELY like the one in your photo right down to the red interior. Again, the motor & shaker are long gone but aside from the floor pans being almost completely rotted away, the remainder of the tin looks very very good. I don't believe there was any major dents in it, at least none that I noticed as dent's usually catch your eye. I spent a bit of time looking 'er over as my youngest son was with me and I pointed out to him how rare these apparently are. I had no idea that on 1377 of these were made. P.S. I sure hope this is not your car that went MIA and is now in a junk yard JUST SOUTH OF ATLANTA!!!!!!!!! Sincerely, Kurt PEACHTREE CITY, GA!

The forum at abodysite.com is regularly filled with fanatical Can Am guys including myself.
Make sure you get the spoiler ends, dash and hood. All the other stuff you mentioned is easy removal, might as well on those things too. If it has any decent interior options or if the rest of the interior is in good shape, those are also things to grab (sail panels, A-pillar trim, seat backs, etc). If it's a sunroof car, get excited.
I have no need, time or money for any spare parts right now, but thanks for the offer. Others likely are very excited at your offer. (edit:) I have crossposted this at ABodySite.

Kurt - I missed answering your question. Not much transfers from A to F body. Wheels will fit...
