My friend as a 1979 Firebird Formula and his car weighs more even with the 301 and the rubber parts. As to my Trans Am with the 403 a heavier engine and heavier plasic parts and other misc. things with both cars. We're dumb-founded on the weight difference thinking mine would weigh more. Does anyone have any idea of why?

How are the cars being weighed/compared?  Other than the engines, how are the cars equiped? Both auto trans? A/C installed? Power locks and windows? T-tops on one but not the other? What wheels are installed?

Don't forget stuff like how much gas is in the tank, or if they both have space saver spares vs a full sized spare.  Little stuff like that adds up.  If you haven't, you should go and find a scales where you can weigh them both at the same time, rather than accepting a weight listed elsewhere.

The 403 is not necessarily heavy.  The engines may be about the same.  Wheels would make a difference, as well as air conditioning, power windows, and deluxe sound insulation. The transmission makes a bit of difference.  a tank of gas would make over 100 lb difference.

The AMA specs and the parts manual list the weight of all the options, and I'm not looking at that, but I could if you continue to be curious.

Did you weigh the cars somewhere?

we were compareing with the door stickers that say how much the car weighs and our cars have all the same options a/c power windows no power locks no t-tops and the fact that the 301 was designed to be light and that they lightened it more his car weighed much much more ** cant remember how much ** he has the rally II and i have the snowflake wheels.
