As has been suggested, it's yet another case of a lowly government agent screwing up the day the title application was typed.  That application was used to generate the title, and the error just carried forward from that point.  Fortunately for everyone involved there was never any need to reconcile the two.  Think of the mess that would have resulted if the car had been stolen or if the police ever checked the VIN against the registration! Shocked

It's good that you've found the error these 35+ years later -- now you have to get it fixed! Wink

So how much do you want for it?  Have you decided?

Hadn't really thought of a definitive price. I was just going to put it on ebay and see where it went. Like I said in one of my earlier posts I have a bunch of new stuff that comes with it and the body is solid outside of part of the passenger quarter and rocker that needs to be installed(comes with patches), so I figured someone on there looking to do a restoration on one might see mine as a good candidate all things considered. I guess up until then I could solicit some offers if anyone is interested, but right now I just don't have a hard and fast number in my head. I am going tomorrow to get the title correction issue started, so it will be a few days at least before I were to list it so who knows between now and then.

Well, just got the PHS papers back and the reason for my paranoia that something was up was confirmed because it is just a regular old Trans Am and not a Formula.
A 73 Trans Am with its # matching 455 is anything but regular for a 36 year old car. I'd have to say it's a great advantage for sale for you. Good luck!

X2...that is anything but a regular Trans Am!  Nice car for sure and I would be thrilled to own it!  Very Happy

A little late to the party but good to hear you figured it out. I was leaning more towards it being a TA as it had the turned dash, which to my knowledge was not available to the Formula's....anyway looks like a great project car for the lucky buyer, hopefully they do it justice!...goodluck.
