Had a heat stroke

Well, what a dumb thing to do, was out cleaning up and cutting a huge tree limb that fell and wasn't paying attention to anything except getting the job done, in 90 degree weather. Was out there a couple hours and boom, heat stroke, went to the hospital and was there about a week. I'm fine, doc has given me free reign to do whatever at this point. Kind of a blessing in disguise, they discovered high blood pressure and diabetes so, I'm at least temporarily on medication for those, changing my diet, exercising, etc. etc. Did tons of tests and labs to find out that my brain is fine (no jokes!), my heart, while stressed over the matter, is fine, no artery blockages.
Be careful out there boyo's it can creep up on ya.

Rich, Im glad you made it through and are feeling better. I had the same thing happen to me a number of years ago. We were installing a flat rubber roof on a large commercial job. The temp was in the high 90's, with high heat index. Multiply that by the heat radiating from the black rubber. It had to be well over 100 on the roof. First thing was I stopped sweating. I was as dry as a bag of sand. I really started to feel bad and needed a drink. Barely got to the bottom of the ladder. The job was only about a mile from my home and I decided to go there and cool off! I passed the ems station and seriously thought about pulling in but figured I was blowing things out of proportion. I ended up in the shower with my clothes still on water on cold for about an hour. I still dont know how I got there. It really did take a lot out of me, to this day I cannot stand the heat. I took off work this week, only working in the shop just for that reason.

Yes, I agree, be careful in the heat and drink plenty of water.

Great to hear you're OK.....well, except for the diabetes and high blood pressure.  Do what the doc tells you to do and you can control those also.

As far as the brain jokes.......save those for me.

I'm going to see my doctor on the 18th for the first time in 4 years.  He will have blood drained from me and do the regular testing.  He'll probably call me in for the results to ask how I'm still alive.  That is going to be an interesting visit.

Rich, glad to hear you are OK. Heat stroke is nasty and can catch you off guard, even for young people without any medical issues.

Hope you are able to make your health the Number 1 Priority.

I'm glad you pulled through Rich. Life is fragile, be careful everyone. Speaking from recent experiance, we all think we are indestructible and simple things can take the best down.

Had this happen to a kid when I was in the military.  We were in a MOPP 4 exercise (full chem gear) and it was a hot humid day in NJ.  We were all sweating like pigs, when this guy stopped sweating and was real loopy.  Needless to say he had heat stroke and was a young healthy kid.  He got to hand out in the AC while we all still had to press on lol

My step father was pretty close to heat stroke this past weekend. He decided to sell his '72 Chevy van and was cleaning in out. Surprisingly, the tires from the late '80's still held air! The temperatures here have been  around 97-105* with low humidity (it is supposed to be our monsoon season). He noticed simple tasks were taking longer than normal and he stopped sweating. He managed to get in his truck and sit in the AC while drinking water. He had a headache for a few hours.

He will be 82 yrs old next month and is still quite strong but I worry about him doing things like this.
