Driveshaft replacement questions
« on: July 24, 2024, 08:47:04 PM »
Hi guys - have any of you replaced a driveshaft on your TA’s?  If so what yoke did you go with?  I’m looking at the 1350 ones but not sure if they’ll fit the tunnel on the 1977.  My car came originally with the TH350 but now has a 4L70E auto.

Have any of you bought a driveshaft online or have you had them built locally?  I have a local shop but was debating if buying from a manufacturer would be better or not.

I’ve been dealing with Dirty Birds Driveshafts out of St Louis Mo 636-375-2565, they take the time to go over everything and give recommendations. If you live close to St Louis they will come out and measure it for you. I live in South Dakota so my shafts have been shipped to me. I’ve only used them for my race truck so far.

Thanks Tom.  Does anyone know the exact length of this driveshaft?  I will have it professionally measured but I’m assuming they come in a standard length.

Does anyone know if the 1977 Trans Am with a 400/TH350 came with a 3R transmission yoke or a 1310?  Seeing mixed answers when searching.

Don’t quote me but it appears to be 3R based on the part numbers. You can have a look.

Also, when I converted my car from auto to manual, I reused the driveshaft and had to swap yokes of course but they used the same u-joint. I ended up replacing the slip yoke which I didn’t realize had a 1310 end and forced me to use a combination U-joint to use with my driveshaft. I found my receipt in my email and this is the joint I used so it shows adapting a 1310 (my new yoke) to the 3R. Hope I’m right and it helps lol
