Hershey AACA 2023
« on: October 10, 2023, 06:38:52 AM »
Hershey car event was last week. Ran Monday through Friday. The AACA Nationals car show was on Fri. Week was beautiful weather, unseasonably warm in the 70's/80's. Friday decided to rain in the morning. I had my 77 trans am in the DPC (driver participation class). Some minor mods are allowed but the car overall needs to appear stock. This is not point judged but evaluated for authenticity. I left home at 430 am for the 2 hr ride north. About 10 minutes in started a heavy mist then rain all of the way. I got there and the skys let loose torrential down pour. NOT fun in a car with leaking tops  Pulled onto the show field about 8, rain quit about 830sh. Cloudy day but dry. Very good turnout for the show.

That's cool. I couldn't drive mine in the rain. The amount of work to get it looking good again isn't worth it.

I have no idea if my T tops leak. They didn't when I was a kid and driving it every day 25+ years ago. Yes, my car has the original seals and Tops.

I was going to sat, I didn't know you had T tops but then I just remembered you cave the CnC tops that go most of the way across. That's why I forgot.  Your car is the best of the group! Thanks for the pictures.

Thanks Luke, thats just a small shot, I didnt take too many pics. There were about 75-100 cars in the dpc class, there is a similar class for cars that are original/mostly original. That one had the most cars with everything from low model perfect examples to 100 year old worn out drivers. Most of the point judged cars had I would think up to 25 in each class. I think the final count was close to 3000 cars total.
I used to be of the camp to not drive my car in the rain. I will not go out intentionally (although I did Friday) but if I get caught in it, I dont fret like I used to. It will all clean up. I have a good friend with a beautiful trans am. He trailered it to the show and almost did not put it on the field because it was raining a bit. I dont blame him, but the funny thing is there are so many more valuable and nicer cars than mine (and his as far as that goes) that hit the fields. The red roadster in my pics is a 16 cylinder cadillac, worth at least 1.5 mil! The silver roadster with the green int is a Duesenburg worth several million. Many, Many million dollar plus cars there, all getting wet! There was a real 65 shelby 350 in the driver class as well. AND none of them melted, LOL.

I know you are right, it's all relative. To me, my car is a million bucks even though I know it's just a car that there were 100s of thousands built. Relatively east to replace. I'm just jealous of those who can go out and drive them no matter what. I think it's awesome! Maybe one day after the "newness" wears off I can do that.
