Side mirror hardware.
« on: June 08, 2023, 06:56:42 PM »
Can anyone please tell me what size bolts/screw size are used to mount the mirror support to the door.. I’m not sure if mine were riveted or screwed in. Apparently I misplaced whatever was used.

Is that a new door skin, or just really clean and tidy around the holes? I have photos of the screws in my other mirror threads.

Thanks for the responses.  Original door, just finished cutting and buffing, have to clean out the paint from the mounting holes
I’ll take a look again at your other mirror tread.

I'll post them here, not an easy part to find as GM likes to separate a lot of their screws and fasteners. Could be grey phospate treated or gold, depending or era or spares, seen both.

I needed your neat door holes for my photos! Thanks.

#9427652 10-16 x 5/8" with hex-head for F-bodies. Sometimes the RH mirror add-on kit provided rivets, where-as the full kit came with the screws and inner door plates. Earlier number was #9421581.

Is there an inner bracket to support the mirror mount? My painter put the mirrors on, but the passenger mirror is wobbly so I took it off and there is no support. As well it looks like the door is constructed with no easy access to the back side to slide a support bracket in.
I’m guessing I’m going to have to cut a hole and fish around for the lost bracket, then hold it in place with some glue while I get the screws threaded into it.

Thanks, I posted some pics I a post somewhere but it was off topic so didn't see it easily. The difference with Camaro is the offset of the pin hole to match mirror gasket. LH side is part of door.

Looks good. I'm not sure if you found the bracket or not, here's a few extra pics. I even found a whole series of pics and info that I'd missed from my gasket thread, but people weren't really that interested anyway.

This is the Firebird inner plate #1748701 and matching Firebird gasket #9832127. The other pics showed variations of what incorrect gaskets and orientation would look like. This is the only one that is correct and has holes and locating pin lined-up.

Thanks, Hopefully I can find it inside the door, maybe I can fish it out of the top section with a magnet?

All good. The only reasons it wouldn't be there would be if removed from inside or perhaps the tiny screw that holds it was rusty and broke, and removing mirror from outside would let it fall. Either way, if you need to replace it remember there are 2 types that look like this, Camaro has different hole spacing to match the gasket. I need to buy one simply for comparison pics.
