I did this years ago, had to swap out the cylinder or perhaps it was loose. A bit fiddly but I had the key and think it basically holds the locking pins away while the other tab is depressed, cheer up, little buddy.
But I wanted to pull apart a used door for parts, every used door has a missing key. I'd imagine a locksmith would have no trouble, but also at some expense. Anyone done it? I haven't tried, don't have the part with me.
That then made me think of getting spare keys cut for existing glovebox, trunk, doors. Would have to check which code they are stamped with to even use the correct key blank, but then, do the aftermarket keys and locks even come stamped in GM coding system to know? Blah...
