Go to Goodwood Revival before you die

The company sent me to Europe back in September, and as it happened I was able to go to Goodwood revival for one day, on Sunday.  I had no concept of what it was, but anyway, quite spectacular.  They have vintage racing, which is amazing, and they have a very large area built up where they create the impression it's the 1940's or 1950's.  Lots of World War II aircraft were flown in.  You can walk right into the paddock and look at the cars and motorcycles.  Incredible.

They had some open wheel stuff, front and rear engine, some GT stuff (The GT40's raced Saturday so I missed it) and they had 1960's "saloons" which are primarily Lotus Cortinas and Cooper minis and one 427 1963 Galaxie.  Motorcycle race was excellent.  They had a big MGB-only race owing to, I think, some anniversary of its introduction or something.  They had a rather large crackup at the start in the MGB race.

sorry I'm so slow - been on a 2 week cruise.

It's not easy to post pics as you all know, and I don't know how to batch these.  So I'll be brief here.
Goodwood is a vintage racing event and they do a lot of stuff to create the impression that it's 1940 or 1950 or 1960.  They expect you to dress up in 1940's 50's or 60's attire. Here's me.  I found the newsboy cap in an Amvets thrift store.  Couldn't find a typical british flat cap.

This is just people in the parking lot. They had a roped off area here so I think these folks paid extra to picnic trackside.

You can walk right into the paddock. The GT40's ran on Saturday so I missed that.

The motorcycles were super interesting and I did not photograph all of them.

2nd place was won by a Norton featherbed frame running a Matchless G80 CS engine.

Hard to photograph

3rd place to a very interesting supercharged BMW.  Note the shaft drive, hard tail, and obviously the supercharger.  Trailing link girder which is quite strange to me.  The second picture shows the other side (of the supercharger) but it's pretty dark and hard to see a whole lot.


The guy brought 2 or 3 of them.

There were many world war II and even older planes which flew in.  I'll add a spitfire but there were a half dozen of them.


Racing classes were Formula 1"Jr." stuff, several GT classes (big jags, ferraris, corvettes, etc), the motorcycles, "saloon" racing which is Minis and Lotus Cortinas plus a 427 galaxie.  The Galaxie is the same one campaigned in 1963 which won every race and also walked away from the field here very handily.  There are certain Aston-Martins which are in GT classes and also in saloon, it seems like.  Races are short, about 30 or 40 minutes each.  People do mix it up, though.  Quite a few got banged up.

My few pictures don't create a sufficient impression, but let's say there were 200 cars racing and maybe 20,000 people there.

I have heard of this event, but had no idea exactly what it entailed. Looks like a fantastic experience.  Some really impressive autos as well!! For maybe not obvious reasons I am particularly drawn to the motorcycles. Some very nice racing bikes. Im partial to the Norton even though it had a Matchless powerplant (at one time I had a '60 Matchless). I had, now in my brothers posession a 1923 Norton that was a Brooklands race bike.

I figured you would like those.  They say they alternate between 50's and 60's motorcycles racing.  So next year would be 60's motorcycles.  The motorcycles in the infield were generally much older than the 50's with the exception of the flying Millyard.
