Where to find a connector housing
« on: August 15, 2022, 10:53:34 AM »
The plastic has melted on the engine side 3 terminal connector that goes to the AC compressor extension harness.  This is for a 79 with 403.  The connector has a black, dark green and light green wire.  I'm having a heck of a time trying to find this without buying the entire wire harness.  Does anyone know of a source for this type of part?  I will even settle for a used one that is in good condition.

When I bought my TA, that piece of harness was missing. But I got it when I bought the engine which came from the 98 Regency. Same connector, same wires. I guess many cars were shearing the same parts.

You might try here:

Or do a web search on Packard style connectors.

Yes, I've already done that.  There are tons of Packard connectors but not this one. :-(
The harness companies have this connector but they won't sell it by itself.  So they must have a source for it.

I'm trying salvage yards that specialize in 2nd gen F body cars.  There aren't many from what I can see.  Most of them are for 3rd and 4th gens.  Does anyone know of any?

After more research, I find that the most common 50s to 80s era Packard connector is series 56.  But the connector in my 79 is not a series 56 in that it has a different style contact (and housing as well).  This connector is a Pack con II but the II is not as common as the III.  Does anyone know the difference between the II and III?

How about a picture?

My TA started out life as a 403 AC car - might have it on an old harness.

I no longer have a cloud site for photos since the Photobucket meltdown.

Mystery solved thanks to Carlos at Custom Connector Kits.  It is Packard/Delphi/Aptiv (take your pick its all the same) part number 08917544.  Thankfully they still make these old connectors.  The tough part is figuring out what it is.

Does anyone happen to have the female side that they would like to sell?  Aptiv said that the Pack-con II series of connector is obsolete and they have no stock.  There are a few distributors that have them but they want to sell a minimum 100+.

During my search for the elusive 08917544 3 terminal connector housing, I managed to come across a lot size of 1 terminal 08917583 female connector housings.  This is the connector that is commonly used in the late 70s for the high speed blower motor power feed that sits near the A/C compressor.  It typically gets melted from overheating.  I'm going to sell these in small quantities if anyone needs them.  I'll post this in the Parts for Sale section.
