Maybe it's a stupid question, but there are three stamping marks on the olds timing cover, is there any purpose of these? Can I flush grind them for better water pump seal ?

I've done a few water pumps on 350/403 engines. Never had a problem with one sealing, fresh Felpro gasket each time.
