I have seen a few of his video's.  This guy is very active on 301garage, although their site appears to be down right now. His shop/garage is located in Kenosha Wisconsin about 20 miles from me. He is very knowledgeable when it comes to 301 Turbo engines.

I saw one video where he ran this car at the strip, running 12.85 quarter miles. On a stock bottom end but with EFI and using E85 Ethanol. Very respectable!

Oops, you snuck the second video in while I was commenting on your first post.

I always wanted to do a turbo on something but was afraid of spending time and then blowing up the engine. I don't know anything about boost but building a draw through like the original TTA and running a throttle body injection, one should be able to keep the air fuel ratio safe (even a dumb dumb like me). I know draw through systems have some real lag but it wouldn't bother me.

I have the original 301 in my Formula and might give it a try (not the end of the world if it explodes). Wondering if you can do a draw through system with a standard turbo.?

Another thought is to weld injector bungs into the stock intake (there would only be 3 per side due to the siamese runner). I could then run a TPI ECM as it is a batch fire system (firing all injectors twice per rotation) end just eliminate the extra injectors.

Luke,

If you are really interested in putting a turbo and FI on your 301, Joe from TTA performance is probably the guy you should talk to. He has been playing with these engines for a long time and apparently is having good results by adding EFI. Since this is his business, I am not sure how willing he is to share what he has learned.

I remember reading a lot of magazine articles back in 1980 and 1981 on Turbo 301’s. Most of the reviews were very disappointing. I think the best ET’s were in the high 15’s, with complaints of turbo lag. I think Pontiacs electronically controlled quadrajet ECU just wasn’t up to the task. One only has to look at the success Buick had with the Grand National and GNX to see how much better turbocharging is with good electronic fuel injection.

Luke, with the aftermarket EFI systems out there, they make it really easy to add boost. I had the same concerns, but you can add safeties into the tune so that if you get a malfunction of some component, it will either pull timing or fuel. Holley has a built in boost controller that gives you several options for safeties. I never had to mess with that because I had a supercharger. Basically if a component failed on mine I get no boost haha. With turbos, if you have a bad wastegate or something, it will boost to the moon (and/or blow your pistons to the moon) without some kind of fuel or timing cut.

My next project will have a 5.3 and a turbo. Just have to find the right car first.  8)
