Grounds
« on: May 22, 2022, 06:55:02 PM »
Hey all. Just woke up my TA from winter Knapp. Fuel gauge not working,  worked when I parked it, ground??
Teach stoped about a month before I parked it plus low beam are very dim. Gas gauge is pegged on full. I replaced the circuit board behind the dash about 3 years ago to fix turn singles. Any thoughts welcome.

If the fuel gauge is right over off the dial to Full then yes, the ground isn't there. Usually, the wire that mounts on the underside of the rear panel behind tank is loose, broken, or just needs a clean where it mounts to bare metal. That's the easiest fix and first to check.
The other things to check are the ground cables from battery to radiator support, headlight harness to each end of support, and ground on dash, and anything else that has perhaps been apart or given trouble.

Thank you. It's what I thought but will check it this weekend. I will also check headlight area for ground issues. As far as the tach go's I'm stumped. The clock still works, keeps a steady 8.45 lol  thanks for your input.

Without taking the tach out, you can check the plug on the HEI side, and the main power feed at the fusebox, often jumpered off other accessories like power windows and locks.

I will try that on the tach, got the headlights working right, redid the ground on the fuel tank, was a bit dirty looking, cleaned it up and hooking it back up , gauge is still pegged full with key off or with key on. Long weekend so will mess with it then. Thanks for the advice!

Could be the sender then, the ground is just an extension of it.
