For those who 3D print
« on: October 12, 2021, 05:46:14 PM »
Not sure if anyone here dabbles with this. I know I saw recently FormTAs son was doing a bit but it got me thinking. I’m getting ready to rebuild my hurst shifter and one of the sources for info provided a CAD file (two actually) to print a tool used to reinstall springs into the carrier. I was going to, and may still, try to do this without the tool but wanted to see what someone thought it would cost to make such a product likely for a one or two time use.

This is a link to the file. If anyone has any input or advice I’m all ears.

Those parts could easily be 3D printed. I didn't download the file to check the dimensions because you have to register but my guess at the cost would be around $30-40 for basic plastic using an on-line print service.  If you plan on using the tool multiple times you might want to print in a sturdier material, but basic plastic (PLA) should be good enough for at least one or two uses.

I would suggest hitting up FormTA's son and pay him to print it for you.

Ok thanks for the info. I know very little about 3D printing so I wasn’t sure what to expect cost wise or whether those pieces were difficult or not. $30-40 isn’t bad though I hoped it would maybe be a bit cheaper. Add that to the cost of my rebuild kit and I’m probably starting to approach what it would cost to have it rebuilt, less shipping though and the associated hassle so may still be worth it.
