Lower control arm braces
« on: August 15, 2021, 03:56:30 PM »
Hi guys ! Recently I bought a '78 Camaro subframe for my '79ta and it came with these braces. They are different than ta's braces, so the question is, can I use them ? Will they interfere with something ? The engine is the olds 403 and I don't plan to put headers on it.

FWIW they used those on the oddfire Buick V6 firebirds as well.  I think they will fit.

Why did the V6 need those braces?

The V6 in the Firebird, at least in 1977, used an even longer tubular type like an extra long WS6 and mounted under the rail instead and does not bolt to the control arm mounts. The Camaro uses an angle piece and takes up 3 mounting points as in photos. It would be interesting as to which offer the most deflection control, there's even room to mount 2 types on some vehicles. The mounting points for all 'should' exist on the 77-81 era vehicles, I'll have to check mine. The A, B and G model GM of the era often had the longer type as well for chassis bracing.
"Should" being the operative word....The Subframe I got was from a 76 Camaro. Not a mark/dimple, nothing. Blank Canvas if you will. Easy enough to figure out where the holes should go, just no welded in nuts inside the tube.
