Reproduction Emissions and Fuel Decals
« on: April 10, 2021, 04:47:03 PM »
Can anyone here recommend someone that can make the two emissions decals that go on the radiator cover for my Canadian sold 1981 Z28?  I just ordered new VIN and tire pressure decals from ECS but they won't make them or even try for some reason.  The decals for my Z28 are almost identical to the decals for a 1980 Z28 with the 350 4 speed except the code in the upper left corner should be 7A instead of ZN. I tried Jim Osborn Reproductions but they only sell decals they already have in stock.  TAKerry said someone on this site was doing it a while back but the thread had been deleted when a server crashed.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks, Chad

I might be able to help you.  I live in Ontario Canada.  I have a 1981 SE Turbo Trans Am.  I needed the Canadian emission decal for my car.  The Canadian decal is not being made,  only U.S. cars.  I ordered a U.S. decal.  The original decal was tore up pretty bad.  Before I removed it I took several pictures of it.  I then took my pictures and the U.S. decal to my local vinyl sign maker.  They make all sorts of signs and wrappings for vehicles.  With the decal and pictures they were able to produce a perfectly correct emission decal for my Canadian equipped car.  Steve.

Thanks Steve.  My originals are in pretty good shape so I'll try taking mine to a vinyl graphic maker to see if they'll do the same for me.  I'm assuming I'll need to buy the similar US decals so they'll have a good base to start from since the lamination on mine is all spider cracked over t he past 40 years?  I tried posting pics of them but it says they are too big.  Thanks, Chad

Hey Chad,  that's what I would do.  Like I said,   it worked perfect for me.  100% accurate.  100% satisfied.  Good luck.  Let me know how you make out.
 Steve.

Dropped my new 1980 350 4 speed emissions decals and pictures of my original decals off at a vinyl sign maker today and he thinks he can make some really good reproductions of my original.  He has a 54" printer and said he would an entire row of each decal for $50 bucks since he likes messing with weird stuff like this!  He's also going to making me a row of the "Unleaded Fuel Only" decals that are written in English and French for it too so I'm pretty excited to see what he comes up with.

Check the "Unleaded Fuel Only" font with an original.  I have a NOS decal and the repros are a different font size.

Picked up my decals tonight, they look really good!  He couldn't make the fuel decal with a clear back ground so I'll have to keep looking for someone to make that one.  Is your decal written in English and French highway star?

I wouldnt think the unleaded decal would be that hard to find.  When I was a kid one of my friends dad worked at the Chrysler plant. He brought home a box of those unleaded decals when that stuff started coming out. We put those things everywhere. Our bicycles were pasted completely.
